Will Ferrell Set to Star in LIV Golf-Inspired Sitcom, per Report
The PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf drama has inspired a slew of content since its onset. Articles, podcasts and even books are being written about the Saudi-backed breakaway tour and its disruption of the professional golf landscape. Now, the controversy seems to have sparked an idea in yet another medium.
According to a Deadline report, Will Ferrell will star in a new golf comedy series about “a professional golfer who becomes the face of a controversial new league competing with the PGA.”
While the subject of the sitcom isn’t confirmed, it sure sounds like a show based on LIV Golf and its frontman, Greg Norman. The two-time major champion from Australia has caused quite a stir as the CEO of the start-up tour.
Norman infamously referred to the Saudi government’s human rights violations as “mistakes” when asked about LIV’s sportswashing efforts.
As Deadline reports, the TV package is a collaboration between Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum’s Gloria Sanchez Productions and Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Street. Although Ferrell’s career took off on Saturday Night Live, he has only held one major TV role since, in the Apple TV+ miniseries The Shrink Next Door.
Ferrell, an avid golfer himself, has starred in a number of classic sports movies including Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Blades of Glory.
If his upcoming golf comedy TV series is anything like his prior movie roles—the report alleges that the show will have a similar tone—it is easy to picture the show as a smash hit.
