The World Wide Technology Championship was being staged for the first time at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico, which was designed by Tiger Woods. The Fall Series event had an $8.2 million purse, with $1.476 million to the winner. 

Erik van Rooyen claimed the winner's check, storming to the top with a final-round 63 that included 28 on the back nine with a birdie-birdie-eagle finish. It was a second win on the PGA Tour for the music-loving, stylish South African.
