There are horses for courses, and then there’s Xander Schauffele at East Lake Golf Club.

On Saturday, Schauffele might not have been overly pleased with his 2-under 68, but he should be satisfied with the incredible streak that he just extended at the Tour Championship.

In Schauffele’s 27 total rounds at East Lake—the annual host site of the PGA Tour’s final FedEx Cup playoff event—he has never shot over par.

In Schauffele’s six appearances at the tournament, he’s placed 4th, T5, T2, 2nd, T7 and, in 2017, he won the event.

This week, Schauffele has not backed down from the mind-boggling run, shooting rounds of 67, 64, and 68 to take solo second place behind Viktor Hovland, who holds a six shot lead.

Looking at Schauffele’s scores to date at the Atlanta venue makes the record even harder to fathom.

To put the streak into perspective, Justin Ray—social media's resident statistics expert—calculated the number of birdies and eagles Schauffele has recorded at the Tour Championship (as of his first seven holes on Saturday).

The number is baffling.

Schauffele had made 122 eagles and birdies combined up until that point—the most of any player since 2017. That comes out to 25.7% of his holes played at the Donald Ross design.

Plus, in Schauffele’s final 11 holes on Saturday, he carded two more birdies.

Schauffele might have some significant ground to make up if he wants to catch Hovland’s lead on Sunday, but the continuation of his wild under-par streak is well within reach.
