Have Clubs Will Travel: Belmont Golf Course

"Have Clubs Will Travel" looks at A.W. Tillinghast's 1917 design in Richmond, Va. The course, originally known as Hermitage Country Club, hosted the 1949 PGA Championship won by Virginian Sam Snead and was later rebranded as Belmont Golf Course. The course recently underwent a restoration by Love Golf Design.

"Have Clubs Will Travel" host David Wood showcases one of the feelgood stories in golf: the rebirth of Belmont Golf Course in Richmond, Va. — a 1917 A.W. Tillinghast design from the golden age of course architect.

Nearly a decade after its opening, Donald Ross added his own design contributions to the course that was originally known as Hermitage Country Club. The club hosted the 1949 PGA Championship that was won by Sam Snead 3 and 2 over Johnny Palmer.

Love Golf Design recently restored 12 of Tillinghast's original holes and the facility, operated by First Tee — Greater Richmond — also includes Little Bell, a 6-hole par-3 course and The Ringer, an 18-hole reversible putting course.
