Have Clubs Will Travel: Cruden Bay Golf Club

Host David Wood showcases the idyllic course that sits along the northeast Scotland coastline and inspires both awe and creation.

A golf trip to Scotland, especially along the northeast coastline, should include a stop at Cruden Bay Golf Club. The course dates to 1899 and was originally designed by Old Tom Morris and Archie Simpson. Located two hours north of St. Andrews, Cruden Bay is situated over a sweeping golden beach on the North Sea shores.

The late course architect Pete Dye considered Cruden Bay one of his favorite courses and it served to inspire a number of his own designs. Adding to Cruden Bay's character is the fact that the eerie Slains Castle, known to have provided the inspiration for Bram Stoker's "Dracula," can be seen from the course.
