About The Signature: A few years ago, course architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who collaborated to design Bandon Dunes Golf Resort’s Bandon Trails (2005) and 13-hole par-3 course The Preserve (2012), were chosen to transform the resort’s latest course, Sheep Ranch. At the time, Sheep Ranch was a crude, loosely routed 13-green layout that essentially served as the private playground for course co-owners Phil Friedmann and Mike Keiser, who founded the resort. … Opened on June 1, 2020, the 18-hole, par-71 Sheep Ranch already holds its own with four older 18-hole Bandon brethren. The course’s compactness — a 6,800-yard layout on a bandbox-sized 140 acres — is overshadowed by the fact that nine greens sit along the captivating Oregon cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. All total, there is more than a mile of ocean frontage at Sheep Ranch. … The par-3 16th is one of those holes and shares a double green with hole No. 3 atop Five Mile Point, a cape that juts out from the cliffs. … Other unique qualities about Sheep Ranch are the lack of sand bunkers and the fact that three teeing areas are shared by two holes apiece.
