UMS Wright's Alex Sherman voted SB Live Alabama High School Athlete of the Week (March 20-26)

The junior right-hander earned a majority of the fan vote for his complete-game shutout against Orange Beach

Congratulations to UMS-Wright baseball star Alex Sherman on winning the fan vote for SB Live Alabama’s High School Athlete of the Week for March 20-26!

The right-handed 2024 pitcher hurled a gem, going seven innings for the complete-game, shutout win over Orange Beach. He walked just one batter and struck out seven, allowing just two hits.

Sherman received 8,707 votes, representing 51.1 percent of more than 17,000 votes from fans across Alabama.

Huntsville’s Chase Cartron finished second, garnering 3,843 votes (22.6 percent), while Priceville softball star Bentley Black received 2,942 votes (17.3 percent).

Bentley Black, Priceville (Softball)

Went 5-for-6 in two games Friday with a double, three triples and six RBIs, then went 3-for-4 with two more RBIs in two games Saturday to help Priceville to a 4-0 run in the New Hope Tournament.

Chase Cartron, Huntsville (Baseball)

Struck out 10 batters in six innings, allowing just three hits and two walks in a 10-0 win over West Limestone.

Jaylen Drake, James Clemens (Track)

Finished first in the shot put with a 52-3.00 mark in the Friday “Knight” Invitational at Arab High School.

Sam Mitchell, Bob Jones (Baseball)

Struck out eight batters in an 11-4, complete-game win over Cullman and went 3-for-8 over three games with a double and two home runs, including a walk-off, three-run bomb in the eighth inning of a 7-5 win over Buckhorn.

Payton Ousley, Charles Henderson (Track)

Placed first in the Girls’ 100 meter dash (12.79), the 200 meter dash (26.17) and the 400 meter dash (1:03.68) at the Troy Invitational.
