Here are the candidates for the WaFd Bank Arizona High School Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 9-15 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Sidney Anderson, Sophomore, Ironwood Ridge - Swiping 12 steals on Thursday for the Nighthawks, Anderson also had 23 points, four rebounds and seven assists to help Ironwood Ridge to a 62-41 victory over Buena.

Rebecca Arave, Senior, Lee Williams - Nearly posting a triple-double on Tuesday in the 55-32 victory over Prescott, Arave had 14 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals to contribute all across the board.

Carmella Baldwin, Senior, Arizona College Prep - In a conference battle against Combs on Monday, Baldwin helped the Knights pick up a 55-47 victory with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Oneida Barrios, Freshman, Cholla - Setting a personal best with a double-double on Monday in the 67-17 victory over Desert View, Barrios dropped 28 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, six steals and a block while averaging 93-percent from the field.

Ellie Bennett, Senior, Bradshaw Mountain - In Monday’s rivalry game against Prescott, Bennett finished the night as the leader on the court with 19 points, eight rebounds, one assist and four steals to help the Bears defeat the Badgers 41-31. 

Victoria Cazares, Senior, Pueblo - Dropping 30 points on Wednesday, Cazares also had five rebounds, an assist and two steals to help Pueblo take down Sahuaro 60-56.

Chelzie Downs, Junior, Vista Grande - In Monday’s game against Trevor G Browne, Downs contributed all over the court in the 85-16 victory with 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists and eight steals.

Ariel Douglas, Junior, Coronado - Triple-double alert! Douglas dropped 20 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, 10 steals and a block to help Coronado cruise to a 64-29 victory over Apache Junction on Wednesday. 

Katy Frost, Senior, O’Connor - Playing the best game of her career on Tuesday, Frost helped O’Connor pick up a 50-41 victory over Cibola with 21 points, 11 rebounds, an assist, two steals and a block.

Carmella Gallardo, Sophomore, Seton Catholic - Averaging an outstanding 95-percent from the field on Thursday, Gallardo had 23 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals to help Seton Catholic pick up a 65-46 region road victory over Mesquite.

Avery Graber, Senior, Paradise Valley - Posting a double-double on Thursday for Paradise Valley in the 66-30 victory over Casa Grande, Graber finished the game with 22 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, six steals and a block.

Symirah Gray, Sophomore, Poston Butte - Despite being forced to play without a head coach for a majority of the game, Gray stepped up and helped take control for the Broncos on the court, leading the game in scoring with 30 points on the night. She also had eight rebounds, six assists and two steals in the game.

Ellie Guiney, Junior, Millennium - Leading Monday’s game in scoring with 22 points, Guiney also had seven rebounds, five assists and five steals to help Millennium dominate Verrado 71-29.

Taliyah Henderson, Sophomore, Salpointe Catholic - Helping Salpointe pick up a big 69-51 victory over 5A Catalina Foothills on Monday, Henderson had 19 points, six rebounds and eight steals to help seal the win. She followed it up on Wednesday in the 57-18 victory over Canyon del Oro with 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Closing out the week on Thursday in the 48-42 victory over Pueblo, Henderson had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Kinzey Hutchings, Senior, Campo Verde - With a new career high of 24 points on Thursday, Hutchings also had four rebounds and six assists to help Campo Verde pick up a big 73-46 win.

Madelynn Muniz, Senior, Boulder Creek - Posting 31 points for the Jags on Monday in their 65-42 victory over Liberty, she also had a rebound, three assists and three steals to help secure the win.

Nayeli Nidez-Acuna, Junior, Sunnyside - Leading Friday’s game in scoring, Nidez-Acuna had 29 points along with 13 rebounds, an assist, seven steals and a block to help Sunnyside take down Ironwood Ridge 62-49.

Khamil Pierre, Senior, Perry - Future Vanderbilt Commodore had an outstanding game on Thursday to help Perry pick up a 68-37 victory over Sunnyslope. Pierre finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and six steals on the night.

Mia Powell, Junior, Vista Grande - Powell had a career-best performance on Wednesday in Vista Grande’s 72-21 victory over Cortez. She finished the game with a double-double, posting 26 points, six rebounds, eight assists and 13 steals on the night.

Gabriella Sanchez, Senior, Tucson - In Tucson’s 72-26 victory over Cholla on Tuesday, Sanchez led the game in scoring while en route to a double-double. Sanchez had 22 points, 12 rebounds, an assist, two steals and a block. She followed it up on Wednesday in the 72-29 victory over Maricopa with 37 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, seven steals and two blocks.

Natalie Scherzer, Senior, Chaparral - Posting 34 points, six rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block on Friday, Scherzer helped Chaparral pick up a 71-38 rivalry win over Desert Mountain.

Mya Speer, Senior, Centennial - In a huge 61-54 upset over Sunrise Mountain, Mya Speer had a career-best 21 points along with 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Dalia Valdez, Junior, Maryvale - With 20 points and 13 rebounds, Valdez had a double-double for the Panthers in their 51-33 victory on Tuesday over Trevor G. Browne. She also had four assists and a block.

Kelsey Watts, Sophomore, Campo Verde - Helping Campo Verde close out a phenomenal week with a 82-38 victory over Casa Grande on Friday, Watts had a career-high 27 points along with nine rebounds, three assists and seven steals.

Isabella Webb, Sophomore, Mica Mountain - Dropping nearly a triple-double on Monday in Mica Mountain’s 56-48 victory over Sahuarita, Webb had 18 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists, three steals and a block for an outstanding all-around performance.

Bry’ann Wiley, Sophomore, South Mountain - Leading Tuesday’s game in scoring with 25 points, Wiley also had eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block to help South Mountain pick up a 68-37 victory against Central.

Angelina Whelan, Sophomore, Rio Rico - Setting a new career best on Wednesday, Whelan had a double-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds, an assist and two blocks to help Rio Rico defeat Douglas 65-51.
