Liberty beats Centennial to win Arizona Open Division football state championship (photos)
PHOENIX - Liberty not only secured its spot as the best high school football team in Arizona, but the Lions from Peoria also stated their case for a national ranking.
Led by a big game from senior quarterback Navi Bruzon, Liberty rolled to a 33-21 win over Centennial in the Arizona (AIA) Open Division high school football state championship on Saturday night at Sun Devil Stadium.
Bruzon finished 12-of-19 for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he rushed 23 times for 110 yards and another TD.
Liberty (12-1) entered the game on the fringe of the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings. Their only loss this season was on the road to Corona Centennial (California), one of the best teams in the country. And they only lost by seven.
Centennial finished 11-2, with both losses coming to Liberty.
