Arkansas 8-Man high school football report (Week 3)
It is just a few weeks into the 2023 season and there have been no shortage of thrilling moments.

TOP PERFORMERS
Alex Arriaga, Spring Hill
The junior ran 12 times for 98 yards and a touchdown, as well as collected 12 total tackles, two for loss, in Spring Hill’s 22-16 win over Parkers Chapel.
Kaden Avery, Rector
The senior caught a 50-yard touchdown and returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score in Rector’s 46-22 win over Mountain Pine. Avery also led the Cougars defensively with 12 tackles and snagged an interception.
Garrett Buchanan, Izard County Consolidated
Buchanan collected 18 total tackles, four solo, in ICC's 60-14 win over Marshall.
Wyatt Buchanan, Izard County Consolidated
The junior completed 10-of-16 passes for 311 yards and four touchdowns, along with six carries for 48 yards on the ground, in ICC's 60-14 win over Marshall.
Porter Burton, Izard County Consolidated
The junior caught six passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in ICC's 60-14 win over Marshall.
Peyton Cartwright, Corning
The junior led Corning with 11 total tackles, including 2.5 sacks, along with three pass deflections and forced a fumble in the Bobcats’ 32-22 win over Cutter-Morning Star.
Demarion Chapple, Augusta
Chapple compiled 173 yards to offense (108 rushing, 65 receiving)and four touchdowns in Augusta's 66-58 win over Rose Bud. He also collected 13 tackles on defense.
Derrick Clarke, Dermott
The sophomore compiled over 200 yards of offense and passed for three touchdowns in Dermott's 40-8 win over Cedar Ridge. Clarke also had two defensive scores, returning a fumble for 64 yards as well as a 21-yard interception.
Haydon Cox, Corning
The junior rushed seven times for 81 yards and also collected seven tackles with a sack and forced a fumble in Corning’s 32-22 win over Cutter-Morning Star.
Jakob Cox, Corning
The junior hauled in six passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns, both from over 50 yards out. Cox also collected seven tackles and snagged an interception on defense in Corning’s 32-22 win over Cutter-Morning Star.
Kyle Halliburton, Brinkley
The senior led the Tigers with 14 total tackles, three for loss, in the Tigers' 34-8 win over Fountain Lake.
Drew Henderson, Rector
The senior compiled 431 yards of total offense, including an incredible 335 on the ground, and scored four total touchdowns in Rector’s 46-22 win over Mountain Pine.
Mitchell Hicks, Brinkley
The senior compiled 255 yards of offense (154 passing, 101 rushing) and four total touchdowns in Brinkley’s 34-8 win over Fountain Lake.
Keithan James, Brinkley
James collected 10 total tackles, two for loss, and recovered a fumble in Brinkley’s 34-8 win over Fountain Lake.
Hayden Jennings, Rose Bud
The junior led the Ramblers with 12.5 total tackles with a sack in Rose Bud’s 66-58 loss to Augusta.
Ta'von Johnson, Augusta
Johnson rushed 18 times for 118 yards, including 97 in the first half, and a touchdown in Augusta's 66-58 win over Rose Bud.
Brayden Jones, Woodlawn
Jones rushed 10 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns in Woodlawn's 44-14 win over Midland.
Brody Koch, Subiaco Academy
The senior led the Trojans with 18 total tackles, one for loss, in Subiaco's 40-26 loss to Mountain View. Koch also led the team in rushing, carrying seven times for 75 yards and two touchdowns.
Xander McCandlis, Izard County Consolidated
The junior collected 15 tackles, three solo, in ICC's 60-14 win over Marshall.
Levin McGuire, Spring Hill
The senior collected 14 total tackles, with 1.5 sacks, in Spring Hill’s 22-16 win over Parkers Chapel.
Kaiden McHenry, Strong
The junior rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown in Strong's 14-0 win over Prairie View (La.) Academy.
Peyton Mills, Cutter-Morning Star
The junior completed 14-of-26 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns in Cutter's 32-22 loss to Corning.
Landon Monroe, Marshall
Monroe hauled in a 27-yard touchdown and also returned a 52-yard scoop and score in Marshall’s 60-14 loss to Izard County Consolidated.
Aden Moore, Woodlawn
The junior compiled 246 yards of offense (133 passing, 113 rushing) and three total touchdowns in Woodlawn's 44-14 win over Midland.
Rodney Rapert, Corning
The senior collected 10 total tackles with two sacks in Corning’s 32-22 win over Cutter-Morning Star.
Brayden Reedy, Rose Bud
The senior caught four passes for 138 yards and three touchdowns in Rose Bud’s 66-58 loss to Augusta.
Antonio Rookard, Mountain Pine
The sophomore led the Red Devils with 14 tackles, three for loss, in Mountain Pine’s 46-22 loss to Rector.
Chad Russell, Mountain View
The senior hauled in six passes for 112 yards and four touchdowns in Mountain View's 40-26 win over Subiaco Academy.
Drew Shelton, Mountain View
The senior compiled 262 yards of total offense (167 passing, 95 rushing) and five touchdowns in Mountain View's 40-26 win over Subiaco Academy.
Cale Slaten, Mountain Pine
The junior rushed 11 times for 116 yards (10.5 YPC) and a touchdown in Mountain Pine’s 46-22 loss to Rector. Slaten also passed for a touchdown and collected 10 total tackles, one for loss, along with averaged 34.3 yards per punt with two downed inside the 20-yard line.
Jaxon Smith, Spring Hill
The sophomore completed 5-of-7 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns, along with 39 yards on the ground, in Spring Hill’s 22-16 win over Parkers Chapel.
Seth Smith, Corning
The junior completed 7-of-10 passes for 190 yards with two touchdowns, and added 68 yards with two scores on the ground in Corning’s 32-22 win over Cutter-Morning Star.
Gabe Spray, Izard County Consolidated
Spray hauled in four passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns in ICC's 60-14 win over Marshall.
Rush Sullivan, Mountain View
The junior collected 13 total tackles with one sack in Mountain View's 40-26 win over Subiaco Academy.
Bryce Walls, Rose Bud
The senior compiled 431 yards of offense (301 passing, 130 rushing) and eight total touchdowns in Rose Bud’s 66-58 loss to Augusta.
Chris Williams, Brinkley
The sophomore caught three passes, all touchdowns, for 131 yards in Brinkley’s 34-8 win over Fountain Lake.
Rylan Williams, Dermott
Williams hauled in two passes, both touchdowns, for 75 yards and snagged an interception in Dermott's 40-8 win over Cedar Ridge.
Jy'Quan Winston, Dermott
The sophomore rushed seven times for 136 yards and a touchdowns in Dermott's 40-8 win over Cedar Ridge.
Jahkeim Woods, Strong
The junior collected nine total tackles with three sacks in Strong's 14-0 win over Prairie View (La.) Academy.
Kendrick Woods, Augusta
Woods completed 9-of-17 passes for 187 yards and scored four total touchdowns in Augusta's 66-58 win over Rose Bud.
Maverick Woods, Mountain View
The senior collected 13 total tackles, including two sacks, and recovered a fumble in Mountain View's 40-26 win over Subiaco Academy.
SCORES AND RANKINGS
Sanctioned Division Rankings
1. Rector (2-0)
In a rematch of last season’s sanctioned semifinals, the Cougars bested the Red Devils by a more substantial margin this time around, 46-22 powered by nearly 500 rushing yards.
2. Spring Hill (2-1)
The Bears’ defense has really clamped down in the previous two contests, allowing just 12 points against Genoa Central and 16 last Friday against Parkers Chapel, both victories.
3. Strong (1-0)
The Bulldogs overcame severely muddy conditions to get past Prairie View (La.) Academy, earning their first victory of the season.
4. Woodlawn (2-0)
The Bears had the most questions coming into the season of any team in the 8-Man ranks, but have looked really good through two games, particularly on defense allowing just 14 points per contest.
5. Brinkley (2-1)
After taking one of the chin to defending club champion Mountain View, the Tigers put together a complete performance last Friday and shut down defending sanctioned runner-up Fountain Lake.
(Izard County, Mountain Pine)
Club Division Rankings
1. Mountain View (2-0)
The defending club state champion won its eleventh consecutive contest dating back to last season over Subiaco Academy. The Yellowjackets host defending sanctioned champion Izard County Consolidated on Friday in the Game of the Week.
2. Subiaco Academy (2-1)
Defending club champion Mountain View was too much for the Trojans, but Subiaco was able to hold its own much better than last year's lopsided matchup.
3. Corning (2-1)
Things have really turned around for the Bobcats in the past couple of weeks, as they were shut out in Week 1 and have now won two in a row behind an offense averaging 45 points per game in those contests.
4. Cutter Morning Star (1-1)
The Eagles' high-powered offense struggled to get in a groove against Corning. They now set their sights on rebounding against Rose Bud, a contest that combined for 106 points last season.
5. Genoa Central (0-1)
The Dragons were on a bye last week and will play at Woodlawn on Friday.
