Top 25 national baseball rankings: No. 4 Barbe (Louisiana) wins LHSAA state championship

Donovan LaSalle's grand slam lifted Barbe past West Monroe for the Louisiana Division 1 state title.

The Barbe High School baseball team won their 12th Louisiana state championship over the weekend.

Down to their final three outs in Saturday's LHSAA Division 1 non-select championship game, Barbe responded with nine runs to stun West Monroe. The Buccaneers, ranked No. 4 in the country in the latest SBLive Power 25 national baseball rankings, shut down the Rebels in the bottom of the inning for a 10-4 victory.

1. IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) (25-0)

IMG closed out their perfect season more than two weeks ago. The Ascenders do not participate in FHSAA postseason play.

2. Marjory Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fla.) (26-0)

Stoneman Douglas marched on in the 7A playoffs last week, beating Monarch 14-1 and Taravella 13-3. They'll host Columbus in one of four regional final games on Tuesday night.

3. Sinton (Texas) (32-1)

Sinton needed just two games to win their series against Calallen. They'll play a best of three series with Pleasanton beginning on Friday night.

4. Barbe (Lake Charles, La.) (39-1)

Barbe completed their state championship run, beating Sulphur in Thursday's semifinal game and West Monroe in Saturday's Louisiana Division 1 Non-Select State Championship. The Buccaneers trailed 4-1 entering the final inning before exploding for nine runs.

5. Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) (32-2)

Bishop Gorman cruised through the Southern Nevada baseball playoffs, winning all four games last week by five runs or more. They'll head north to Reno this week and will play Damonte Ranch in Thursday's 5A state semifinal.

6. Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.) (25-4)

Jesuit needed extra innings on Friday to get past Naples, reaching Tuesday's 5A regional final against Osceola. Florida State commit Noah Sheffield delivered a two-run walk-off home run in the eighth inning to help the Tigers advance.

7. Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.) (25-4)

Calvary Christian won two playoff games last week including a 3-0 shutout against Bishop Verot. They'll host Tampa Catholic on Tuesday night with a trip to the FHSAA 3A semifinals on the line.

8. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) (22-9)

After having their opening round game rescheduled due to rain, JSerra won three games last week to reach the Southern Section Division 1 semifinal round. They'll head to Corona on Tuesday, sitting one game away from a return to the Southern Section Championship game.

9. Aquinas (San Bernardino, Calif.) (25-4)

Aquinas survived a 12-inning battle in the second round of the Southern Section playoffs and beat Ocean View on Friday to advance to the semifinal round. They'll play Crespi on Tuesday afternoon, looking to advance to the Southern Section Division 2 championship game.

10. Concordia Lutheran (Tomball, Texas) (33-2)

The Crusaders beat Bishop Lynch 11-1 and 3-2 last week, advancing to this week's TAPPS Division 1 semifinal round. They'll take on Trinity Christian Academy on Tuesday night.

11. Cypress Woods (Texas) (32-3)

Cypress Woods took both games from Oak Ridge last week, stretching their winning streak to 18 games. They'll face off with Klein Oak in this week's Texas 6A regional quarterfinal round.

12. Westlake (Austin, Texas) (34-3)

Westlake needed to extra-inning games last week to close out Brandeis, 5-4 and 7-5. The Chaparrals advance to play Round Rock in this weekend's Texas 6A regional quarterfinal round.

13. St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.) (26-3)

St. Mary's Prep bounced back after losing their 85-game winning streak by winning six games last week. They'll take on Detroit Country Day and Hartland this week as they move towards 30 wins on the season.

14. Houston County (Warner Robins, Ga.) (34-6)

Houston County took two 6-5 games from Etowah last week to reach the GHSA State Championship game. They'll take on Pope, beginning on Thursday night.

15. St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) (30-1-1)

St. John's dropped their first game of the season on Wednesday against Paul VI but bounced back by beating the Panthers the next day. They closed out the season by taking both games from Gonzaga to capture the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.

16. Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.) (32-6)

Parkview picked up two dominant wins over Mill Creek on Wednesday in the GHSA 7A state semifinals. They advance to take on Lowndes in the state championship series that begins on Tuesday night.

17. Santa Margarita (Calif.) (25-6)

Santa Margarita returns to this week's rankings after a 3-0 start in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. They'll host Orange Lutheran in the semifinal round having swept the Lancers during the Trinity League series in early March.

18. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) (25-5)

Hamilton has won their four playoff games by a combined score of 35-6. They'll take on Queen Creek on Tuesday night in the AIA 6A State Championship game.

19. Rockwall (Texas) (33-7)

Rockwall dropped Thursday's opener against Mansfield but bounced back two wins including a 6-0 shutout on Saturday to keep their season alive. They'll play Mansfield this weekend in the regional quarterfinal round of the Texas 6A playoffs.

20. Corona (Calif.) (22-9)

After shutting out Rancho Cucamonga in the opening round of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs, the Panthers got past San Dimas in nine innings and shocked many by beating Notre Dame on Friday. They'll host JSerra on Tuesday with a trip to this weekend's championship game on the line.

21. Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio) (24-3)

Moeller went 4-0 last week, closing out their regular season on a 10-game winning streak. They'll find out their playoff bracket later this week.

22. Orange Lutheran (Calif.) (20-10-1)

Orange Lutheran got past Harvard-Westlake in round two before taking down Villa Park 6-1 on Friday to advance to the Southern Section Division 1 semifinals. They'll travel to Trinity League rival Santa Margarita on Tuesday for the right to advance to the championship game.

23. Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) (29-3-2)

Johnson makes their season debut in this week's rankings having won 21 of their past 22 games. They beat Bowie 2-0 and 12-3 last week, leading them into this week's 6A regional quarterfinal against Lake Travis.

24. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) (28-3)

Notre Dame was eliminated from the Southern Section playoffs on Friday, losing at Corona 2-1 in 10 innings. The Knights had entered on a 12-game winning streak before allowing a walk-off RBI double.

25. West Monroe (La.) (34-5)

West Monroe made their way to the Louisiana Non-Select Division 1 championship game, beating Sam Houston in the semifinal round. The Rebels led Barbe 4-1 in the final inning of the championship before allowing nine runs, falling to the Buccaneers 10-4.
