HILLSBORO, Ore. — Jaden McDaniels' trophy will go above his bed, next to the other trophies and accolades he has accrued as one of the top basketball recruits in the country.

This recognition, though, an MVP performance to lead the Washington high school all-star team over Oregon in the 2019 Northwest Shootout, 120-102, carried a little more meaning: state bragging rights.

Oregon had won the annual game the last five years. But ask Federal Way's McDaniels, there was never a doubt who would win on Saturday at Liberty High School.

"Of course," the five-star recruit said. "Had to put on for the city."

McDaniels had a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds, a performance laced with high-flying dunks and blocks befitting the hype surrounding him. Many consider McDaniels, who is still uncommitted, a top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

He was one of six Washington all-stars to score in double figures, standing out along with Lynden Christian's Cole Bajema, a Michigan commit, and Gonzaga Prep's Anton Watson.

Bajema scored 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting and Watson added 18 points, seven boards, and the drop-dead play of the night — a posterizing one-handed dunk over Stayton High School's Riley Nichol.

Washington led by 13 at half and slowly pulled away in the second. Oregon cut the lead to single digits early in the second half, but McDaniels helped Washington create a 20-point cushion.

Kelso's Shaw Anderson, a Seattle Pacific signee, added 15 points. Kittitas' Brock Ravet, the state's all-time leading scorer, and Gonzaga signee, added 12. Foss' Micah Pollard also had 12 points.
