The 2021 California high school baseball season wrapped up on Saturday with three teams from the CIF San Diego Section capturing Southern California Regional Championships.

No. 1 Eastlake snuck into the San Diego Section Open Division playoffs and made the most of it, defeating top-seeded San Marcos twice during their playoff run. The Titans took down Grossmont 8-3 in the championship game after losing all three matchups to the Foothillers during the regular season.

The Titans picked up their play after the regular season, winning four of five games all away from home to capture their third San Diego Section Open Division Championship in the last five seasons. They fell to Ayala, 8-6, in the first round of the Southern California D1 Regional playoffs.

2. Grossmont (29-7)

The Foothillers cruised into the open division championship game but were unable to beat Eastlake for the fourth straight time this season. Their season ended with a 2-1 loss to Orange Lutheran in the first round of the Southern California D1 Regional playoffs.

3. La Costa Canyon (22-13)

La Costa Canyon baseball

La Costa Canyon was a semifinalist in the open division, losing to eventual runner-up Grossmont. The Mavericks reset with a new title on the line and won three straight games to claim the Southern California D2 Regional Championship, capped by a Mark Prince walk-off hit.

4. San Marcos (26-7-1)

The top-seeded Knights struggled in the open division playoffs, losing two of their three matchups against Eastlake. They opted out of regional playoffs.

Facing elimination, the Eagles rattled off four straight wins to grab the San Diego Section D1 Championship and followed it up with three more wins to become the Southern California D3 Regional Championship.

The Sultans beat Rancho Bernardo in the first round of the open division playoffs to extend their winning streak to 15 games before falling to Grossmont and La Costa Canyon on back-to-back days to end their season.

Point Loma

Point Loma was walked-off by Granite Hills, 3-2, in the San Diego Section D1 Championship and then lost to Arlington, 7-0, in the first round of the Southern California D3 Regional playoffs.

8. Carlsbad (21-9)

Brock Bass Carlsbad

The Lancers won all four San Diego Section playoff games to become the D2 champions. They trailed Steele Canyon 3-0 in the final game before scoring 16 unanswered runs. Carlsbad opted out of regional playoffs.

The hottest team in San Diego, Christian beat San Dieguito Academy 7-4 in the San Diego Section D3 Championship game. They saw their 18-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-2 loss to La Habra in the D5 Southern California Regional Championship.

10. Steele Canyon (23-12)

Sebastian Granados Steele Canyon

The Cougars held a 3-0 lead over Carlsbad in the San Diego Section D2 Championship game before allowing 16 straight runs. They defeated Citrus Valley in the first round of regional playoffs and lost to Royal in the second round.
