Congratulations to Sacramento Adventist girls basketballguard Gwen Fayard for being voted SBLive’s Northern California High School Athlete of the Week for Jan. 3-9!
The senior led the Capitals to a 3-0 week averaging 20.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 5.7 steals per game. In their last game, she outscored the opposing team alone en-route to a 14-point triple-double in assists and steals.
Fayard received 48.77% of the vote, beating out Antelope's Mary Carter who finished second with 40.06%. Antelope's Majer Sullivan finished third with 6.68% and California's Kelly Tumlin finished fourth with 1.89%. There were over 38,000 votes tallied this week!

GIRLS BASKETBALL:
Shamira Bidaye, Priory (Portola Valley) G:
Bidaye put up 20 points and 14 boards in a 63-45 win against King’s Academy.
Antonia Vlahos, Castilleja G:
While the Gators couldn’t pull out the win against Notre Dame (San Jose), Vlahos exploded for 31 points on 12-20 shooting (4-6 3FG) to go with 14 rebounds and two blocks.
Makayla Carre, Sierra Pacific C:
Carre led the Golden Bears to three straight blowout wins averaging 25 points and 14 rebounds per game on over 50% shooting.
Aaliyah Thompson, Corcoran C:
In a trouncing of Farmersville, Thompson singlehandedly outscored the opposition with 32 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, and four steals on 59% shooting.
Gabriella Avila, Corcoran G:
Avila also had a monster game, posting a 19-point triple-double on rebounds and steals while also notching three assists and shooting 9-12 from the field.
Maycee Heimann, Colfax F:
Heimann led the Falcons to a 2-0 week and registered 21 points (50% FG), eight rebounds, and six steals in a 66-22 win against Woodland.
Samia Smith, Grant (Sacramento) G:
Smith scored 22 points on 61% EFG to go with four assists and five steals in Grant’s lone game last week, a 61-7 blowout of Mira Loma.
Jameelah Pharms, Stagg G:
In three games last week, Pharms averaged 23 points, six rebounds, and 5.3 steals per game.
Kalysa Phanhsavang, McNair G:
Phanhsavang led the Eagles to a 1-1 week averaging 21.5 PPG on 57.7% shooting (65.4% EFG) to go with five APG and five RPG.
Mary Carter, Antelope F:
In Antelope’s lone game last week, Carter erupted for 30 points and 20 rebounds plus five assists, four steals, and four blocks in an 81-42 rout of Yuba City.
Destiny Evans, American Canyon C:
In the Wolves’ only game last week, Evans dominated in a 53-38 win over Vintage with 25 points on 10-12 shooting to go with 12 rebounds.
Sarah Tait, Piner G:
Tait averaged 23.5 PPG game to lead the Prospectors to a 1-1 week.
Lauren Green, Castro Valley G:
Green dropped 30 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and eight steals in a lopsided win over Arroyo in the Trojans’ only game last week.
Kelly Tumlin, California G:
While the Grizzlies came up short against Acalanes, Tumlin scored 34 points on 12-19 shooting (5-10 3FG) to go with six steals in Cal High’s sole game last week.
Jocelyn Medina, Pierce G:
Medina scored 39 points with five made threes in Pierce’s only game last week, a 59-40 win against Willows.
Karli Reynolds, Weed G:
Reynolds led the Cougars to a 3-1 week averaging 23.3 points per game. In the last game, she put up 28 in a win over Etna to avenge the loss on Tuesday.
BOYS BASKETBALL:
Kiejuan West, Marshall (San Francisco C):
West put up a whopping 62 points – more than the other team – in a 97-51 win over Lycée Francais.
Jaylan Walton, Hoover (Fresno) G:
Walton scored 23 points on 10-14 shooting to go with three assists and six steals in Hoover’s only game, a 66-61 win over Bullard.
Gilbert Maravilla, Sierra Pacific G:
Maravilla averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, seven assists, and 5.5 steals per game last week on 53.6% shooting as the Golden Bears went 2-0.
Carson Stephens, Liberty (Madera) G:
Stephens scored 43 points on 15-26 shooting with 11 rebounds and three assists in the Hawks’ only game last week, a close loss against Golden West.
Casen Chaney, Ponderosa G:
Chaney helped lead the Bruins to a 2-0 week averaging 18 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and four steals a game.
Ameere Britton, Elk Grove G:
Britton led the Thundering Herd to a 2-1 week putting up 20.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.
Majer Sullivan, Antelope F:
Sullivan dropped 23 points on 10-15 shooting, two blocks, and a school-record 30 rebounds in a 10-point win over Roseville. In Antelope’s other game, a blowout of Yuba City, Sullivan played sparing but finished with 10 points on 5-5 shooting to go with six rebounds.
Elijah Watkins, Edison (Stockton) G:
Watkins led the Vikings to a 3-0 week with 15.3 PPG on 60.5% shooting, 12.3 RPG, 3.3 APG, and two SPG.
Beni Njomo, Lincoln (Lincoln) G:
In the Fighting Zebras’ only game last week, Njomo led them to an overtime win versus Union Mine with 24 points on 10-17 shooting, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
