Oakland Tech holds off La Salle to win CIF State Division III girls basketball championship
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Oakland Tech overcame a slow start to beat La Salle 39-33 for the CIF State Division III girls basketball championship on Friday at Golden 1 Center.
It's the fourth girls basketball state championship in school history for Oakland Tech.
The Bulldogs only scored five points in the first 10 minutes of the game, but they came alive on offense and turned up the defensive intensity in the second half.
The game ended on an electrifying sequence. With Oakland Tech leading 34-33, Mari Somvichian drained a three to put the Bulldogs up 37-33 with 17 seconds left. Then Taliyah Logwood stole the ball from La Salle, dribbled around her back, and found Erin Sellers for a transition layup as time expired.
Erin Sellers led Oakland Tech with 11 points. Sophia Askew-Goncalves racked up eight points and 12 rebounds.
Audrey Chen led all scorers with 13 points for the Lancers.
