Juju Watkins leads Sierra Canyon to rout of Mitty in CIF State Open Division girls basketball championship
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Juju Watkins put on a show Saturday night.
The No. 1 player in the country in the class of 2023, Watkins dominated from the opening tip, leading Sierra Canyon to an 85-61 rout of Archbishop Mitty in the CIF State Open Division girls basketball championship at Golden 1 Center.
Despite sitting nearly eight minutes of the game due to foul trouble, Watkins' final line was staggering: 23 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 blocks and 3 steals - in just 24 minutes. She helped stake Sierra Canyon to a 41-27 halftime lead, and the lead continued to grow in the second half.
Christy Reynoso had a big game for the Trailblazers as well, scoring 14 points in 15 minutes and shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field - including 4-for-4 from the 3-point line.
Mackenly Randolph added 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Izela Arenas and Leia Edwards scored 12 apiece.
Sierra Canyon was deadly from the 3-point line, making 10 of their 20 attempts. Mitty, on the other hand, was 6-for-24.
Makayla Moore led the Monarchs with 14 points and nine rebounds. Morgan Cheli notched 11 points and seven rebounds for Mitty, and Siena Guttadauro scored 10 points for the NorCal champions.
