Top 15 left-handed pitchers in San Diego Section high school baseball
League play is underway across San Diego and SBLive is looking at the best players in the San Diego Section. Today, we feature the top left-handed pitchers across the county.

Gabe Camacho – La Costa Canyon – Junior
Camacho is one of the county's top two-way players. He had an ERA of 2.14 for the Mavericks last season and has stepped up as their leader on the mound with injuries shortening the rotation. He's committed to Pacific.
Holden Carpenter – San Marcos – Senior
Carpenter went 5-2 for the Knights as a junior. He's 2-1 so far this season with a 2.05 ERA through his first six appearances of the season. Carpenter has signed with San Diego State.
Gabe Diaz – Steele Canyon – Senior
Diaz went 2-0 in 11 games for the Cougars as a junior as has backed that up so far in six appearances as a senior. He's struck out 45 batters in 35.2 innings and has an ERA of 1.96.
Mason Dirkes – Grossmont – Senior
Dirkes was a work horse for the Foothillers as a junior, appearing 14 times. He's posted nearly identical numbers from a season ago, sitting at 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA through seven games.
Isaac Garcia – Ramona – Senior
Garcia has had a hot start at the plate, hitting .394 while also stealing five bases. On the mound he's 1-3 and has struck out 27 batters in 19.1 innings. He'll play next season at Cal State San Marcos.
Talin Gardini – Patrick Henry – Sophomore
Gardini was very good as a freshman a year ago annd has taken the next step forward. He's 4-1 with a 1.31 ERA and has struck out 41 batters in only 26.2 innings while forming an excellent 1-2 punch with Santa Clara-signee Ryan Ellis.
Sam Garewal – Canyon Crest – Senior
Garewal's start to his senior season is one of the best in San Diego history. In four starts for the Ravens, the Northwestern-signee is 3-0 and has yet to allow a run in 27 innings. He's struck out 56 batters and has allowed six hits and five walks. He's just about halfway to Joey Magrisi's (Torrey Pines '18) consecutive scoreless inning streak of 54 2/3.
Benjamin Haar – Helix – Senior
Haar has been getting it done on the mound and at the plate through the first 11 games of the season. The University of San Diego commit has a 2.59 ERA in 24.1 innings and has struck out 31 batters while also hitting .474 with four home runs.
Ryan Herrod – Westview – Junior
Herrod had a breakout season as a sophomore finishing with a 1.85 ERA and 36 strikeouts. He's equaled his strikeout total in 11 less innings this spring and committed to the University of San Diego in the offseason.
Colin Johnson – Sage Creek – Senior
Johnson has tossed 18.1 innings so far this season for the Bobcats. He sits at 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA and has struck out 16 batters. He'll play next season at the University of Dallas.
Marland Jorgensen - Madison - Senior
Jorgensen slid over to the diamond after basketball season and has pitched five times out of the bullpen for the Warhawks. He's struck out 17 batters in 9.1 innings and has committed to play at UC-Santa Barbara.
Isaiah Martinez – Eastlake – Junior
Martinez had a 2.02 ERA last season for the Open Division champions. He's taken a big step forward this year with a 4-0 record and an ERA of 0.53 in nine games for the Titans.
Daniel Shaul – La Jolla Country Day – Senior
Shaul has kept batters off balance in 13 innings to start his senior season. He's got a 1.08 ERA and 12 strikeouts for the 8-2 Torreys. He'll play at Grinnell next season.
Sage Sturgeon – Santa Fe Christian – Junior
Sturgeon has allowed only four earned runs in 21.2 innings so far this season including a complete game shutout against Mission Hills with ten strikeouts.
Braden Wilson – West Hills – Junior
Wilson has posted big strikeout numbers in the early part of the season that have him amongst the section's leaders with 40. Against Coronado, he struck out ten batters and allowed one unearned run in 5.2 innings.
