Top 20 wide receivers in San Diego Section football

SBLive is continuing to take a look at the top players by position across California. Last week we published the top 25 running backs in the San Diego Section, now it's time to take at look at the top wide receivers.

The selection of players — listed here in alphabetical order — are based on a combination of next-level projection and current production.

TOP 20 WIDE RECEIVERS IN SAN DIEGO SECTION FOOTBALL

Josh Ball – Junior – San Marcos

Ball leads a talented trio of Knights receivers in yards per catch with 21. He’s reeled in 30 passes through six games and has found the end zone seven times.

Tre'Von Blanks - Sophomore - Crawford

Blanks has had a breakout start to his sophomore season with the Colts, establishing himself as a big play weapon. He's caught 13 passes through the first six games, averaging just shy of 30 yards per catch. Seven of his 13 catches have resulted in touchdowns.

Chris Brown – Junior – Mira Mesa

Brown made his mark last season with seven total touchdowns and is on pace to nearly double last year’s receiving totals. In six games, he’s caught 29 passes for 401 yards and has five touchdowns.

Surahz Buncom – Senior – Mater Dei Catholic

Buncom found the end zone on nearly a third of his receptions last season, finishing with 30 catches for 467 yards and nine touchdowns during the Crusaders' undefeated run. He committed to Kansas in June.

Nolan Cummings – Senior – San Marcos

Cummings caught two touchdown passes in his first 15 games with the Knights and has flown by that total with six touchdowns so far as a senior. He has 406 receiving yards on the season.

Dreyden Garner – Sophomore – University City

Garner has produced all over the field so far this season for the Centurions. He's averaging 24 yards per catch and has four receiving touchdowns in six games. Garner has also scored via interception return and kickoff return.

Rollin George – Senior – Mater Dei Catholic

George caught 24 passes for 437 yards and four touchdowns for the Crusaders last season. He also added two rushing touchdowns and tossed three touchdowns while serving as backup quarterback.

Jaylen Hall – Senior – Mater Dei Catholic

Hall totaled 656 all-purpose yards last year for the Crusaders, contributing on offense and special teams. He scored five touchdowns and committed to Montana last month.

Isaiah Hasten – Junior – St. Augustine

In his first season with the Saints after transferring in from Granite Hills, Hasten has quickly made an impact on both sides of the ball. He's caught 16 passes for 357 yards and four touchdowns and also has four interceptions through six games.

Jake Jackson – Senior – Madison

Jake Jackson Madison Warhawks

Jackson had a breakout season on the gridiron last year with 30 catches for 741 yards and ten touchdowns. The San Diego State baseball commit has 303 receiving yards and three touchdowns so far this season to help the Warhawks start 6-0.

Justin Johnson – Senior – Carlsbad

Johnson led St. Augustine with 33 receptions last season and has thrived so far this season while catching passes from Julian Sayin. He leads the Lancers with 21 catches for 447 yards and six touchdowns.

Aleonte Logan – Senior – Morse

Logan caught four passes last season and has erupted for 34 in seven games this season. He leads the San Diego Section with 817 receiving yards and has eight touchdowns heading into the eighth week of the season.

Jeremiah McClure – Senior – Mater Dei Catholic

Jerry McClure Mater Dei Catholic

McClure established himself as the Crusaders go-to guy on offense after transferring in from St. Augustine following his sophomore season. He caught 38 passes for 958 yards and eight touchdowns. UCLA, Washington and Indiana are among the schools heavily recruiting McClure.

Jase Nix – Sophomore – San Marcos

Nix caught seven touchdown passes last season as a freshman and has caught ten through six games this season. He leads the Knights with 39 receptions having quickly developed rapport with freshman quarterback Kreet Makihele.

Ty Olsen – Sophomore – Del Norte

Olsen was one of San Diego’s top freshman last season with 658 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. In six games this year he’s surpassed all of last season’s totals, sitting on 46 catches, 726 yards and ten touchdowns heading into Friday’s game against Mt. Carmel.

Dante Scott – Senior – Bonita Vista

Scott only caught 23 passes as a junior but made them count, finishing with 581 yards and ten touchdowns. The Colorado State commit has 17 catches for 283 yards and two touchdowns in six games this year.

Jacob Sloan – Senior – Mission Bay

Sloan finished his junior season with 823 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns and is once again a go-to guy in the Buccaneers offense. He leads the San Diego Section with 58 receptions through seven games and has 655 yards and seven touchdowns.

Isaiah Sutton – Senior – Kearny

Sutton has been an offensive weapon for the Komets this season, averaging 143 all-purpose yards per game. He has 674 receiving yards, nine total touchdowns and has made plays on defense as well with two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Drew Ventimiglia – Senior – Mt. Carmel

Ventimiglia was second in receiving yards last season for the Sundevils and has already surpassed last year’s receiving yards and touchdown totals in half the games for one of the top contenders in division two.

Ryan Weinberg – Senior – La Jolla

Weinberg has seized the leading receiver role for the Vikings this season with 413 yards through six games. He’s caught 13 touchdown passes over 19 games during the past two seasons.
