Clovis West girls breeze to 11th straight Central Section basketball title, beat Clovis team that handed Golden Eagles only defeat

Athena Tomlinson, Trinity Tolbert lead Golden Eagles to 54-42 win, making coach Craig Campbell the winningest in section history

CLOVIS, Calif. — The Clovis West Golden Eagles secured their 11th straight Central Section Championship Saturday with a 54-42 win over Clovis in the Division I title game at Selland Arena.

Clovis West, ranked 23rd nationally by SBLive Sports, improved to 30-1. Its only loss was to Clovis 52-51 on Jan. 24. The Golden Eagles returned the favor with a 53-39 win at Clovis on Feb. 10 before Saturday's win, which extended its win streak to eight. 

The Eagles held a 29-20 halftime lead and while Clovis put up a fight, Clovis West had too much firepower and balance in the end.

Athena Tomlinson and Trinity Tolbert each had 14 points to lead Clovis West, while Etoyah Montgomery added nine points. Tomlinson was named player of the game.

Alyssa Kem and Devin Miller each had 10 points for Clovis (25-6).

Clovis West head coach Craig Campbell earned win 425 in the Central Section, making him the winningest girls coach in Section history.
