Serra safety Joseph Bey to remain in blue and gold — commits to San Jose State

One of Northern California's top defensive players will wear the same team colors in college and play just 30 minutes South down Highway 101.
Joseph Bey, who has made an impact on Serra's two-time Northern California Open Division football representative since he was a freshman, emphatically announced on Twitter through GetSportsFocus that he had picked San Jose State.
Known as an emphatic hitter from his safety spot, Bey backed up his announcement by saying he was "1000% committed" to the Spartans.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound incoming senior picked San Jose State over six other schools that have made him offers, including Arizona State and Pittsburgh. He earned first-team All-State last fall by SBLive. SEE SBLIVE'S ALL-STATE TEAM 2022

The others that made him offers were Nevada, Portland State, UNLV and Columbia.
"He's going to make San Jose State a better place," said Serra head coach Patrick Walsh, who played running back for the Spartans in the 1990s.
Bey had 46 tackles from his safety spot in 11 games for Serra, which has gone a combined 24-3 the last two seasons, losing two of those games to national No. 1 teams (St. John Bosco in 2022 and Mater Dei-Santa Ana in 2021).
The son of a coach, Bey is known for his smarts and leadership on the field and in the classroom on top of big instinctive and athletic.
Serra is the alma mater of former NFL greats Tom Brady and Lynn Swann and baseball home run king Barry Bonds.
