The honors just keep rolling in for Great Oak ace Miali Guachino.

Since leading the Wolfpack to a CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship, the Mississippi commit has been named the Cal-Hi Sports junior of the year, IE Varsity player of the year, and first team all-state by SBLive.

Last week, after releasing our 2023 all-state softball teams, we gave you – the fans – the opportunity to vote for who you thought was the player of the year in California. And now after a close race, Guachino can add another feather in her cap, winning the SBLive fan vote for statewide player of the year.

As a junior, the future Ole Miss rebel went 15-4 with a 0.57 ERA and 280 strikeouts in 135 innings, held five playoff opponents to one total run, and even hit three home runs in the postseason.

Guachino earned 42,636 votes to edge out Rancho Cordova infielder Mariah Hopkins, who also racked up an impressive number of votes with 38,110 of them.

An SBLive all-state third teamer, Hopkins hit .547 with 15 homers, 42 RBIs, 21 steals, and 38 runs scored, recording an outlandish 2.167 OPS.

Hollister infielder Taylor Faga also cracked the 10,000 vote mark, and Cambria Salmon (Beaumont) and Brynne Nally (Pacifica-Garden Grove) recorded over 4,500 apiece to round out the top five. There were another five players who eclipsed 1,000 votes, and 114,784 were cast in total.
