SAN MARCOS, CALIFORNIA – Carlsbad scored five touchdowns on Friday night, each by a different player, on their way to a 35-14 victory over Mission Hills. The Lancers scored with three seconds left in the second quarter to take a 14-7 halftime lead.
Carlsbad came back with three second half touchdowns, all on the ground, to increase their lead.
Senior Thomas McCormick, an All-CIF linebacker, got 15 carries at running back due to an injury that limited starter Mason Walsh. McCormick responded by rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown in his debut at the position.
Quarterback Julian Sayin, an Alabama commit and reigning Elite 11 MVP, finished out his night by completing 19 of 22 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
