Visiting De La Salle had a three-touchdown flurry ended off in the middle of the fourth quarter to take a 2 7-12 lead and it seemed all was well in hand for the mighty Spartans, who entered with a 265-game unbeaten streak against North Coast Section squads.
The last De La Salle defeat to a NCS team: 35-27 to Pittsburg in the 1991 NCS 3A title game at the Oakland Coliseum.
San Ramon Valley remarkably not only tied the game in the final minute of regulation, it had a chance to win after a De La Salle fumble. The game got to overtime and after SRV came up empty on its possession, Derrick Blanche Jr. scored on a 6-yard run to win it.
