Trent Perry commits to USC; 4-star Harvard-Westlake guard picks Trojans over Gonzaga, others

Trent Perry is a 6-foot-4 guard ranked among the top 60 basketball prospects in the country and will play for Andy Enfield at USC next season

Trent Perry has elected to be a Trojan.

The 4-star combo guard out of Harvard-Westlake in Studio City, California committed to USC Friday evening on ESPN+ from the Border League in Las Vegas during halftime of a GEICO Top Flight Invitational game.

He chose USC over Colorado, Gonzaga, Oregon, Stanford and TCU.

Perry was a key player on Harvard-Westlake's 2023 CIF State Open Division championship team, averaging 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game as a junior. In the state title game, he notched an impressive 16 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, breaking the CIF State Open Division finals record for assists, a mark previously held by Mater Dei’s Stanley Johnson (8) since 2014.

The Wolverines raced to a 76-65 victory over Santa Maria St. Joseph at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento in March. Perry was named the Mission League Player of the Year and earned All-CIF honors.

Perry, a 6-foot-4 combo guard that is seen playing point guard most of the time, is ranked in the top 60 nationally, according to 247Sport's composite rankings. He is also ranked among the top 10 combo guards in the country. He'll be a featured player for Harvard-Westlake this upcoming 2023-24 season, along with junior Nik Khamenia and senior guard Robert Hinton (Harvard commit).

The Wolverines are playing in various regional and national events this year, including Hoophall West in Arizona, the Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon, the Take Flight Challenge at Redondo Union High, the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., and the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana.

QUICK LOOK DOWN THE ROAD AT USC

In theory, Perry could see a lot of minutes as a freshman at USC. Boogie Ellis' college career will be over, and Isaiah Collier is projected to be an NBA lottery pick in the 2024 draft. Then there's Bronny James, whose return to the court is still in question after suffering from cardiac arrest this past July.
