Lewis caught a touchdown pass in the second overtime period against Helix

EL CAJON, CALIFORNIA— Granite Hills needed overtime to defeat Helix for the second straight season, beating the Highlanders 44-43 in double overtime on Friday night.

Granite Hills junior wide receiver Brenden Lewis, an Arizona State baseball commit, caught six passes for 110 yards and reeled in a touchdown in the second overtime period. After Helix matched Granite Hills with a touchdown of their own in the second overtime, the Highlanders were stuffed on their two-point conversion attempt to seal the win for the Eagles.

Granite Hills (9-0) will travel to Grossmont next week before getting a bye in the Open Division playoff bracket. The Highlanders (8-1) will host Steele Canyon to close out their regular season slate.

After the game, Lewis discussed his emotions of getting to play against Helix for the first time at the varsity level as well as how they found a way to win after surrendering 17 unanswered points.
