The latest SBLive Top 25 high school football rankings for the LA City Section after Week 9.

(Rank: school, W-L record, comment; Week 10 opponent, previous ranking)

1. Birmingham (7-2)

Birmingham topped Cleveland 43-6. As other programs falter, the Patriots' case to win a fourth straight City title grows stronger; vs. Taft; No. 1

2. Garfield (8-1)

The Bulldogs beat Legacy in a 42-7 route; vs. Los Angeles Roosevelt; No. 3

3. Gardena (8-1)

Welcome to the Open Division playoffs ... after beating Carson 27-7 in a stunner, the Panthers have solidified their first berth into the premier postseason division for the first time in program history; at Narbonne; No. 7

4. Carson (8-1)

The Colts were stunned by Gardena, which will impact their Open Division playoff seeding; vs. Banning; No. 2

5. Granada Hills (6-2-1)

The Highlanders topped El Camino Real 30-2 thanks to two TD runs from Darrell Stanley. Granada Hills' only losses this season are to Village Christian of the Southern Section and top-ranked Birmingham; vs. Chatsworth, Thursday; No. 5

6. Palisades (7-2)

The Dolphins edged rival Venice 28-14 to earn an inside track on the Western League title, however, one more win this coming week will earn Palisades the league crown outright in coach Dylen Smith's first year, vs. Los Angeles University, 7:30 p.m.; No. 6

7. San Pedro (5-4)

The Pirates have won two in a row over Narbonne and Banning, but are left without a Week 10 game after Desert Chapel canceled; vs. TDB; No. 9

8. Banning (4-5)

The Pilots drop in the rankings after a 42-20 loss to San Pedro. A big opportunity comes Friday; at Carson; No. 4

9. Franklin (6-2-1)

The Panthers rolled over Marshall, 42-6. Franklin's schedule isn't strong enough to put them into the Open Division field as of yet, but a win over Eagle Rock might help, but it may need someone above them to lose; vs. Eagle Rock; No. 10

10. Narbonne (4-5)

The Gauchos have a chance to shoot up the rankings and even into the Open Division playoffs with a win over Gardena; vs. Gardena, 7:30 p.m.; unranked
