USC, Arizona State hosting Chinedu Onyeagoro, 4-star edge rusher, but dream school is UCLA

Chinedu Onyeagoro (2025) has offers from Arizona, Arizona State and Washington, but says his dream school is UCLA

It's rare to see high-level college football recruits playing in the LA City Section nowadays. Most of them are playing for the private high schools in Southern California, but there are still a few in the City that have 'stayed home', per se.

One being Los Angeles King/Drew's Chinedu Onyeagoro, a 4-star edge rusher who just finished his junior season with 95 tackles and 21 sacks, along with five forced fumbles and two defensive touchdowns. He had 17 sacks as a sophomore.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect holds offers to Arizona, Arizona State and Washington, among others. He told SBLive he will be at USC this weekend as the Trojans host UCLA, and he'll be at Arizona State on November 25 when the Sun Devils host rival Arizona.

"Schools recruiting me the hardest are Washington, Arizona and Arizona State, as well as Oregon State," Onyeagoro said.

He shared that other big-name schools are showing interest, but no offers yet.

"Georgia, Oregon, USC and UCLA," he added.

Despite not holding an offer to UCLA, being a Bruin is a dream to Onyeagoro.

"My dream school would probably be UCLA just because it's close by and they have a great football program as well as a good medical program which i would like to get into," Onyeagoro said.

"But I am not locked in anywhere I'll go to whatever school will use me the best and make me the best player I can be," he added.

The NCAA transfer portal has created a larger sense of urgency for high school recruits. But Onyeagoro doesn't feel like he needs to commit too early.

"I'm not in any rush to commit early," he said. "Hopefully I will be making a decision on where I want to go to in the spring."

PROSPECTS IN THE CITY

Historically, the best football players to ever come out of Southern California were from City Section schools like John Elway (Granada Hills to Stanford) and Anthony Davis (San Fernando/USC).

Since the turn of the century, we've seen Michael Thomas (Taft/Ohio State) and De'Anthony Thomas (Crenshaw/Oregon) dazzle on Friday nights.

The latest prospects have been Arlis Boardingham (Birmingham/Florida) and Dijon Stanley (Granada Hills/Utah). This fall, along with Onyeagoro, the City's top prospects are Birmingham senior Peyton Waters (Washington commit) and 2025 linebacker Mark Iheanachor of Harbor City Narbonne, who's earned a 4-star rating on 247Sports.com.
