St. John Bosco's Caleb Sanchez is SBLive's CIF Southern Section Football Breakout Player of the Year

Sanchez' breakout season isn't just impressive, but a story of patience and loyalty

SBLive's 2023 Breakout Player of the Year

QB - Caleb Sanchez, St. John Bosco, Sr.

Caleb Sanchez' best quality is his loyalty, and it paid off.

The first-year starter burst onto the scene as St. John Bosco's QB1 after waiting his turn and led the Braves to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 title game.

Sanchez passed for 3,341 yards and 35 touchdowns in 13 games in 2023. He was 256 for 362 with a 70% completion percentage while averaging 257 yards per game through the air.

After St. John Bosco was crowned the national champions in 2022, the questions arose about who would play the quarterback position for the Braves.

Sanchez stepped into the role seamlessly, throwing for 300 or more yards five times and tossing for six touchdowns twice.

The highlight of his senior season was beating Mater Dei 28-0 on Oct. 13. He threw for 114 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. It was after that game when he told SBLive that his family wanted him to transfer schools due to the uncertainty of his playing time.

Sanchez wanted to stay - so he did.
