Look: Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy guard Isaac Williams inspired by Russell Westbrook

Player of the Game in 62-54 win over O'Dea in first-round Holiday Classic action, Williams draws off the effort of Westbrook to score 28 points

SAN DIEGO — Isaac Williams is relentless, which makes a lot of sense. 

The 6-foot-1 guard from Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy in Dallas grew up in Oklahoma and his idol was Russell Westbrook. Still is. 

"I try to play really hard every game," he said after scoring 28 points in a 62-54 win over O'Dea (Seattle) in a first-round Holiday Classic Nation Division game on Wednesday. "That's all you can really control." 

His coach Brandon Thomas said Williams has been playing with tremendous effort as of late and it's paid off in six consecutive games of scoring 20 points or more. All Williams was paying attention to was getting a win and advancing in the prestigious 16-team tournament. 

Asked if he thinks his 8-8 team can win the loaded National Division. 

"Of course I believe we can," he said. "I always believe in us." 

Williams grew up aspiring to be a baseball player like his dad. He gave it up only recently "because I figured out I was pretty good at basketball." 

He's ranked the No. 24 senior in Texas by 247Sports and he has seven college offers. He's committed to Texas A&M at Corpus Christi. 

Wednesday was the first time he competed in a game in California. The Eagles play California's No. 3 ranked team JSerra Catholic in a 3:30 p.m. quarterfinal game at Torrey Pines on Thursday.
