SBLive's 2023 PLAYER OF THE YEAR

QB - Julian Sayin, Carlsbad, Sr.

After backing up older brother Aidan during the 2020 Spring season, Julian Sayin burst onto the scene and delivered three huge seasons on his way to becoming of the best prep quarterbacks in San Diego Section history.

The nation's top ranked quarterback in the 2024 class by multiple recruiting outlets, Sayin took home MVP honors at this past summer's Elite 11 quarterback competition in Los Angeles.

Collecting offers from nearly every top college from coast to coast, Sayin committed to Alabama during his junior season over a group that included LSU, Georgia, Texas and Notre Dame.

As a senior, Sayin completed 76 percent of his passes, finishing with 2,369 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and only one interception across 10 games.

Part of a balanced offense that has featured a 1,000-yard rusher in each of the past two seasons, Sayin finished his career with the highest completion percentage in San Diego Section history (70.3). He also ranks fifth all-time with 86 touchdown passes.

The biggest game of Sayin's career came against La Costa Canyon in October when he completed 20 of 25 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-34 victory.

Sayin graduated from high school at the semester and has moved across the country to begin school at Alabama where he will play for a coach other than Nick Saban as initially expected.
