The San Diego Section basketball playoffs will begin later this week

Here's an updated look at the San Diego Section rankings at the conclusion of the regular season.

SBLive’s San Diego Section high school boys basketball rankings are compiled by SBLive California reporter Bodie DeSilva and will be released each week throughout the 2023-24 season.

1. Carlsbad (26-2)

Next game: 2/17 vs. Cathedral Catholic

Last week: 1

Carlsbad wrapped up a second consecutive North County Coastal League title and earned the top seed in the Open Division playoffs for the first time in school history. They'll put their 16-game winning streak up against Cathedral Catholic at home on Saturday night.

2. Montgomery (26-2)

Next game: 2/17 vs. Mission Hills

Last week: 3

Montgomery won all three league games in the final week of the regular season, but fell behind St. Augustine in the final playoff rankings. The Aztecs, seeded third, will begin their playoff run by hosting Mission Hills on Saturday.

3. St. Augustine (24-4)

Next game: 2/17 vs. La Costa Canyon

Last week: 3

The Saints wrapped up another undefeated Western League title with wins over San Diego and Mission Bay in the final week of the regular season. As the two-seed in the Open Division playoffs, St. Augustine will host seven-seed La Costa Canyon to open the bracket.

4. Torrey Pines (21-7)

Next game: 2/17 vs. La Jolla Country Day

Last week: 4

Torrey Pines bounced back from their loss to Montgomery with road wins at El Camino and La Costa Canyon to close out the regular season. The Falcons will host La Jolla Country Day in the first round of the Open Division playoffs.

5. La Jolla Country Day (22-5)

Next game: 2/17 at Torrey Pines

Last week: 5

La Jolla Country Day won nine straight games to close out the regular season, splitting the Coastal League title with rival Santa Fe Christian. The Torreys are in to the Open Division playoffs for the third time in school history and will make a short drive north to Torrey Pines to begin the bracket.

6. La Costa Canyon (19-7)

Next game: 2/17 at St. Augustine

Last week: 6

The Mavericks have won 18 of their past 22 games, losing only to Carlsbad and Torrey Pines during that time. Playing in the Open Division playoffs for the third straight season, the Mavericks will start out with a game at St. Augustine.

7. Santa Fe Christian (20-8)

Next game: 2/14 vs. San Ysidro

Last week: 7

Santa Fe Christian just missed out on the Open Division playoffs, finishing behind Cathedral Catholic for the final spot. The Eagles were awarded the top seed in Division 1 and will host San Ysidro on Wednesday in the 16-team bracket.

8. Cathedral Catholic (19-8)

Next game: 2/17 at Carlsbad

Last week: 10

The Dons enter the playoffs having won nine of 12 games, losing only to St. Augustine and La Costa Canyon during that time. Snagging the final spot in the Open Division playoffs, they'll head to top-seeded Carlsbad in the opening round.

9. Mission Hills (21-7)

Next game: 2/17 at Montgomery

Last week: 8

Mission Hills had their 17-game winning streak snapped against rival San Marcos in the regular season finale. The Grizzlies head-to-head victory over La Costa Canyon helped them grab the six-seed, sending them to Montgomery in the first round of the Open Division playoffs.

10. Mission Bay (17-11)

Next game: 2/14 vs. Poway

Last week: NR

Mission Bay finished third in the Western League, earning the two-seed in the Division 1 bracket. The Buccaneers will open up the bracket by hosting Poway, looking for redemption after last season's championship game loss.
