CIF Southern Section Open Division basketball playoffs: Harvard-Westlake thumps Sierra Canyon, Roosevelt punches ticket to final (2/13/2024)
One CIF Southern Section Open Division boys basketball finalist is set.
Eastvale Roosevelt defeated St. Pius 64-59 at home in the second round of Pool B games Tuesday night thanks to 21 points from Brayden Burries.
The victory makes Roosevelt 2-0 with one game to play against Mater Dei (0-2) Friday night. The result of Friday's game is moot now that Roosevelt holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with JSerra (1-1) and St. Pius (1-1) if it were to lose to Mater Dei and drop to 2-1.1
Tyrone Riley led St. Pius with 15 points in the loss.
JSerra defeated Mater Dei 67-59 led by Sebastian Rancik's 21 points and Aidan Fowler's 18. Owen Verna led the Monarchs with 18.

POOL A
Harvard-Westlake moved to 2-0 after routing Sierra Canyon 72-38 at home.
McDonald's All-American Trent Perry notched 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the victory. Nik Khamenia added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sierra Canyon was without 4-star Arkansas commit Isaiah Elohim due to his ejection last game against St. John Bosco.
Harvard-Westlake outscored Sierra Canyon 38-19 in the second half and led by as many as 30 at one point.
Despite moving to 2-0, the Wolverines don't have the same luxury Roosevelt has. Harvard-Westlake needs to beat St. John Bosco (2-1) on Friday.
St. John Bosco defeated Corona Centennial 72-55. Junior Kade Bonam had 20 points and Centennial - without UCLA commit Eric Freeny - was led by sophomore Isaiah Rodgers.
Sierra Canyon (1-1) will host Centennial (0-2) in the final round of pool play.
