Live score updates: Harvard-Westlake beats Colfax for CIF California girls basketball state championship
SACRAMENTO — Harvard-Westlake's girls basketball team spoiled a good homecoming party.
The Wolverines got huge games from Deana Thompson (18 points, Angelina Habis (17 points) and Valentina Guerrero (14 points, 13 rebounds) to defeat Colfax 60-45 Saturday in the Division 2 state championship at the Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.
It was the second state title for the Wolverines (19-18), who set up a double day of titles for Harvard-Westlake, whose boys will play for the Open Division title at 8 p.m.
The school is trying to pull off a double-title for the 17th time since the state championships began in 1981.
Colfax, the only team participating in the 2024 championships from the Sacramento area, got 18 points and 11 rebounds from Juliette James and 13 points by Kaia Diederichs. It was the second year in a row the Falcons (34-3) have lost in the state finals.
PRE GAME
The 2024 California (CIF) boys and girls high school basketball state championships have arrived. All 12 state championship games will be played at Golden 1 Center, the home of the Sacramento Kings.
The CIF State championship games continue Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Division 2 girls basketball matchup between Harvard-Westlake and Colfax.

Harvard-Westlake 54, Colfax 43: The Wolverines aren't being very good guest, disappointing local fans with a 6-0 run over last 90 seconds and 12-3 for the quarter. Deana Thompson leading the charge. She has 16 points overall.

THIRD QUARTER
Harvard-Westlake 42, Colfax 40 (end of quarter): Seven quick points by Angelina Habis, a freshman guard, keys 18-12 run for the Wolverines who regain the lead in the closest game of the weekend.
SECOND QUARTER
Colfax 28, Harvard-Westlake 24 (halftime): Juliette James, a 5-11 junior, goes to works with eight points. Home fans are pleased. Colfax is the only Sacramento-area squad in the 12-game championships.
FIRST QUARTER
Harvard-Westlake 16, Colfax 9: The Wolverines get six quick points from Jamie Yue.
