Highlights: Monterey beats Chatsworth 74-66 for CIF State Division 4 basketball title

Monterey secures first CIF State title led by 22 points from Kavon Collins

SACRAMENTO - Monterey High School captured their first CIF State basketball title on Saturday afternoon, defeating Chatsworth 74-68. The Dores used a 16-10 first quarter to pull ahead of the Chancellors and did not trail over the final 30 minutes of the game.

Despite 44 points from Chatsworth sophomore Alijah Arenas, the Dores were able to hold off Chatsworth over the final three quarters. Kavon Collins led Monterey with 22 points while brothers Joshua and Ryan Roth combined for 37 points.

Monterey lost the rebounding battle by seven (45-38) but managed to turn the ball over just six times, limiting Chatsworth in transition.

As the 14-seed in the Northern California bracket, Monterey had to play four road games on their way to Sacramento. They won those four games by an average of 17 points per game after losing to Santa Cruz in the Central Coast Section semifinal round.
