Simply put: Seth Hernandez can do both.

The standout junior, who is projected to be a Top 3 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, led Corona High to a CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship with skills from the plate and the mound. He batted .352 with 37 hits, 34 RBI and eight homers. Hernandez had an OPS of 1.080 including a slugging percentage of .666.

One of his best games this season was against Etiwanda, going 2 for 3 with two homers and six RBI. The Panthers won 11-0.

From the bump, Hernandez was even more dominant, going 9-0 in 10 starts with an ERA of just 0.62. He fanned 73 batters in 56 innings and allowed just 27 hits.

Hernandez is listed at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds and will have all eyes on him next spring after being named Player of the Year various other outlets, and being named Gatorade California Player of the Year, too.

Heralded as one of the best pitchers in Southern California, Ethan Schiefelbein showed why this past spring.

The dominant left-hander went 8-0 in 10 starts this season, including a complete-game performance in a 5-0 shutout victory over Harvard-Westlake in the CIF-SS Division 1 final on May 18. The UCLA commit struck out nine and allowed just two hits that day.

For the season, Shiefelbein downed 83 batters in 52 innings and allowed just 17 hits all season. He walked just 11 batters and posted an impressive 0.27 ERA.

Before the first pitch was thrown, Corona was pegged as the team to beat. The roster was loaded with talent, highlighted by at least half a dozen professional prospects.

"We knew we had the talent. We knew we had enough. I challenged these guys to just be themselves everyday. We didn't need anyone to be Superman or do anything extra. Just be themselves," Wise said after winning the CIF title in May.

Wise led the Panthers to a National High School Invitational championship in North Carolina, an undefeated Big VIII title (15-0), and the program's first CIF crown since 1998. Corona finished the season 30-3 and was named national champions by various outlets.

Corona finished No. 1 in SBLive's 2024 national baseball rankings.
