We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in Connecticut and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. It’s no surprise that freshmen are showing out in Constitution State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Connecticut. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing freshman high school football player in Connecticut.

Voting closes on October 31st, 11:59pm

HT Jones, QB, St. Joseph: When it comes to freshman signal callers, there’s not many that have seen time on varsity, but Jones has been an exception. The Cadets’ quarterback has thrown for 367 yards and four touchdowns this fall.

Devin Cook, RB, Fitch: Cook is averaging just under 80 yards per game on the ground for the Falcons. The running back has rushed for 318 yards on 39 carries and scored a touchdown.

Desean Graves, ATH, Holy Cross: Through four games for the Crusaders, the 5-foot-11 athlete has really shown out at wide receiver. Graves has caught 12 passes for 169 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Fabian Reynoso, LB, Danbury: The Hatters’ linebacker has been solid his freshman season with the middle linebacker making a class-leading 39 tackles and three have gone for a loss.

Jacob Smith, OL/DL, Gilbert Northwestern Regional: Smith plays both ways for the Yellowjackets and has made a nice impact as a freshman. On the defensive line, Smith has tallied 22 tackles and four have gone for a loss.

Ethan Blaize, QB, Waterbury Career Academy: Blaize is the only other quarterback on this list as he’s put up some numbers through two games. The passer has completed 14-of-31 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown.

Nathan Craft, RB, Holy Cross: Craft also plays on defense for the Crusaders, but has played well on offense. The running back has rushed for 154 yards on 35 touches, scoring three touchdowns.

Jose Rivera, ATH, Crosby: The 5-foot-8, 155-pound linebacker/quarterback has been a spark plug for the Bulldogs as Rivera has notched 18 tackles and two quarterback hurries.
