DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Edgewater Eagles and Lake Minneola Hawks soared to titles, and the Daytona Beach Mainland Buccaneers are just a win away from lifting the trophy as district races heat up across Central Florida.

In Monday night action, Mainland bounced back from a 33-6 non-district loss to Kissimmee Osceola last Friday by hammering Deltona Pine Ridge, 66-0, in a Class 3S (Suburban), District 9 game at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach. The win for the Bucs (6-2 overall, 2-0 in 3S-9) sets up a district championship showdown with arch-rival Daytona Beach Seabreeze (4-4, 2-0) on Friday, Oct. 28.

“We played very well,” said an elated Mainland coach Travis Roland. “I’m very excited that we came out with energy! The kids played hard and focused. We’re happy to be able to rebound so quickly after a tough loss last Friday.”

Mainland raced to a 52-0 halftime lead and coasted from there. Jackie Bowdry and Clarence McCloud each ran for two TDs, and James Randle Jr. and Jonathan Williams caught TD passes to highlight the first two quarters.

The Bucs also forced two safeties.

“I feel like everyone played well and executed and dominated the whole game in all three aspects,” said Mainland star receiver Ajai “2fly” Harrell. “A great team win.”

Pine Ridge (0-8, 0-2) was officially eliminated from title contention with the loss.

In last Friday’s action, Edgewater remained unbeaten (9-0) and captured the Class 3M (Metro), District 3 championship with a 54-0 victory against visiting Horizon. In finishing perfect (3-0) in district play, the Eagles flew out to a 47-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

It was the second straight loss for upstart Horizon (6-2, 0-2), a second-year school out of Winter Garden.

Edgewater got balanced scoring from its offense. Senior quarterback Chase Carter ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, and freshman Michael Clayton threw for two scores.

Catching TD passes for the Eagles were AJ Howard, Camp Magee and Cai Bates.

Kaden Shields-Dutton and Jayden Alexander-Felton ran for touchdowns to lead a punishing running game.

“I thought we played well in all three phases and look to get better this week in our open week,” said Edgewater coach Cameron Duke. “We hope to continue to heal up heading into the final week of the season!

“We are excited about the district title but we are looking forward to finishing the season off strong and then getting ready for the playoffs.”

Lake Minneola, meanwhile, clinched the Class 4S, District 5 title with a 35-7 victory against Ocala Forest. The Hawks (7-1, 4-0) got four TD runs from John Celestin and a score from D’Nari Adams.

Oviedo also came away a champion, overwhelming short-handed Lyman, 43-13, for the Class 3M, District 2 title.

Jackson LaTour threw for 232 yards and four TDs, Jacob Thelen caught two TD passes, DJ Scott ran for two scores, and Omari Muhammed-Wyatt ran for a TD for the Lions (7-1, 3-0).

Lyman (6-3, 3-1) played without its starting quarterback, William Burke, who sat out with a concussion, and star running back Julian Prime, who has a broken foot and is out for the season.

In two big Class 4M, District 2 games, Apopka (5-2, 2-0) rallied to beat Lake Mary, 21-17, and Seminole (7-1, 2-0) overwhelmed Lake Brantley, 37-7. The two could play for the district title on Nov. 1.

Apopka got a TD run from defensive star Rashad Watson with less than a minute left to beat Lake Mary (5-2, 1-2). Zeldrick Roberts and Kaleb Hicks also scored for the Blue Darters.

Lake Mary freshman quarterback Noah Grubbs threw TD passes to Caden Harshbarger and Markel Jones.

Seminole (7-1, 2-0), one of the top teams in Florida, got three TD passes and a TD run from sophomore backup quarterback David Parks. Starting quarterback Luke Rucker, a Florida Atlantic commit, is still recovering from back problems.

Marvin Brown, Michael Key and Goldie Lawrence, an FSU commit, all caught TD passes for the Seminoles.

Lake Brantley (4-4, 1-3) lost its third straight and was officially eliminated from the district race.

In a pair of Class 4M, District 4 games, Boone (4-3, 2-0) shut out Cypress Creek, 41-0, and Lake Nona (4-3, 3-0) rolled past Oak Ridge 44-8. The winners play Tuesday, Oct. 25, for the district title.

Cypress Creek (5-3, 1-2) and Oak Ridge (1-7, 0-3) were both eliminated.
