Vote now: Who is the Offensive Player of the Year through Week 9 in the state of Florida?
The SBLive Sports Florida staff has watched games from all over the state and as we wind down to the end of the season, we take a closer look at some potential candidates for Offensive Player of the Year.
We selected 10 of the top offensive productive players from around the Sunshine State through Week 9 of the season and we ask you the fan to vote on who’s been the best so far? Give us your vote, as you can vote as many times as you’d like. The voting will conclude Monday, Oct. 31, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
Descriptions of each player’s season so far are below the poll.
Sabby Meassick, Tohopekaliga, quarterback: The freshman signal caller has had one of the best offensive productive seasons of anyone in the state of Florida. Meassick has completed 223-of-324 passing for 2,389 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Tayshaun Balmir, Pasco, running back: Playing in his first season since his freshman year at Pasco, the Pirates’ running back has come onto the scene on the North Suncoast with a bang. Balmir has rushed for 1,665 yards and scored 20 touchdowns.
Dante Johnson-Turner, Mount Dora, running back: A highlight reel at the running back position, Johnson-Turner has been piling up the yards from the backfield like crazy. The senior has rushed for 1,526 yards on 185 attempts and has scored 23 touchdowns.
Jason Patterson, Sneads, running back: Over in the panhandle area of Florida, one of the state’s most prolific runners has been Sneads’ running back Jason Patterson. Patterson has been piling up the yards and touchdowns, with 1,632 on the ground and 25 touchdowns.
Jamarkus Jefferson, Northview, running back: The panhandle’s other productive running back was Jefferson, who has helped Northview to a 8-0 record. Jefferson has rushed for 1,420 yards, scored 28 touchdowns and he also has 235 receiving, two scores.
John Celestin, Lake Minneola, running back: Though the senior running back hasn’t produced the kind of yardage that some of the other backs have, Celestin has scored aplenty. Celestin has 129 attempts for 965 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Kenari Wilcher, Moore Haven, wide receiver: The state’s leading receiver comes from an area you would least expect it. Wilcher, Moore Haven’s top wideout, has caught 37 passes for 1,055 yards (28.5 per catch average) and scored 11 touchdowns.
Orel Gray, University Christian, running back: The Jacksonville area running back is another one of the state’s top runners when it comes to yardage and touchdowns. Gray has rushed for 1,357 yards on 134 attempts and 24 touchdowns.
Luke Warnock, Cardinal Newman, quarterback: The Crusaders have been one of the top teams in Class 1A-Metro, with the program having superb play at quarterback in Luke Warnock. The junior signal caller has completed 106-of-158 passes for 1,782 yards and 28 touchdowns versus just four picks.
