Breaking: Greg Miller steps down as River Ridge head football coach

Miller steps down after just one season at the helm; Led Royal Knights to Class 3S, District

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA- Spring football has been an up and down one for high school head football coaches in Pasco County.

The county saw another head football coach out at the helm as River Ridge athletic director Mike Degennaro confirmed with SBLive Sports Florida that Greg Miller has stepped down as the program's lead man.

Miller went 6-5 in one season and led the Royal Knights to the Class 3S, District 6 championship before losing to Ocala Vanguard in the region quarterfinal round. According to Degannaro, Miller has accepted a coaching job in Georgia.

“We at River Ridge are sad to see him go,” Degannaro said. “He accepted a position in Georgia where all coaches know the pay is better. Coach (Greg) Miller is still going to take some of our players on their college recruiting tour the next few weeks and his staff plans on running off season as originally planned.”

“As far as a search, the job will be advertised starting today if we can get it in the system or Monday. We will start interviews the week of June 5th and our committee will search until we feel we have found the right person for the job.”

Miller's sudden resignation as the program's head coach comes on the heels of a somewhat roller coaster month for head football coaches in Pasco County. Sunlake dismissed BJ Hall as its head coach after allegations of brawl between assistant coaches at a practice on May 1. The Seahawks since then have hired former Gulf/Ridgewood head coach Jay Fulmer as the school's new lead man.

On Tuesday afternoon, Wesley Chapel High School parted ways with Anthony Egan after seven seasons as the Wildcats head coach. Egan compiled an overall record of 34-34 through seven seasons with the program.

Now the Royal Knights must work quickly to look for a new head coach as Pasco County schools last day of school for students is today and many schools start summer works on June 5th and June 12th. Miller came over from Lake Brantley High School where he served as the defensive coordinator for the Patriots.

River Ridge is just over a year removed from Ryan Benjamin leaving the program as the school's most successful head coach in school history. In Benjamin's time with the Royal Knights, he led River Ridge to the region final twice and compiled an overall record of 74-45 through 11 seasons (2011-2021).
