Central Florida quarterbacks soar at QB Shootout

Trever Jackson, Karson Siqueiros-Lasky, Noah Grubbs, Jackson Stecher take honors

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Central Florida quarterbacks put on a passing camp on Saturday, especially the signal-callers from Seminole County.

Seminole High’s Karson Siqueiros-Lasky, Lake Mary’s Noah Grubbs and The Master’s Academy’s Jackson Stecher all took home age-group honors for Seminole County at the 2023 Orlando QB Shootout at Central Florida Christian Academy (CFCA). More than 70 quarterbacks competed in the one-day event.

Lasky, who last year led Lake Highland Prep to the Sunshine State Athletic Conference (SSAC) Class 6A state title before transferring to Seminole this summer, won the varsity championship (11th- and 12th-graders). He led the unbeaten Highlanders (10-0) to a 44-8 victory against Mount Dora Christian in the SSAC title game.

Grubbs, who as a freshman last fall led Lake Mary to the Class 4M regional finals, captured the 9th- and 10th-grade championship. Grubbs, who passed for more than 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns, is regarded as one of the top rising sophomore quarterbacks in Florida.

Stecher won the middle school championship and is projected to have a bright future for The Master’s Academy, an Oviedo private school.

Winning the overall championship was Trever Jackson, a former West Orange star who transferred to Orlando Jones. Jackson passed for more than 1,500 yards and 16 TDs last year in leading the Warriors to the Class 4M regional semifinals.

“The top two kids in the camp had a best-of-4 throws and I was the one who called out the route and drop step,” said Baylin Trujillo, a former Arena Football League and USF quarterback who runs advanced quarterback football training in Orlando.

“Noah was elite and he was just the most consistent quarterback in the camp,” Trujillo said. “He finished the day with perfect ball placement and accuracy, which landed him the MVP, going 4-for-4 to close out the camp.”
