Panhandle Offensive Player of the Week (Sep. 11-16): Vote Now
High school football is back in the Sunshine State and so begins our Player of the Week polls for areas all around the state. Teams started off the regular season with some great individual performances in Week 4.
As such, we have 10 athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s Florida Panhandle Offensive Football Player of the Week award from September 11-16 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 23 at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced in next week's poll.
Congratulations to last week's winner: Cole Tabb, RB, Choctawhatchee.
Here are this week's nominations.
Battle Alberson, QB, Gulf Breeze: Alberson is an uncommitted prospect out of the Florida Panhandle, but how this quarterback could slip under the radar might change after last week's offensive outburst. The quarterback completed 30-of-42 passes for 463 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 97 yards and scored once on the ground.
Bryson Rouillier, WR, Gulf Breeze: The wide receiver was the top target of Alberson as he caught 11 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns against Milton.
Julius Miles, WR, Freeport: One of the top receiving performances came out of the Florida Panhandle this past week from Miles. The wideout hauled in nine passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-36 win over Cottondale.
Cameron Fernandez, QB, Freeport: Leading the way under center for the Bulldogs was Fernandez, who completed 17-of-28 passes for 386 yards and five passing touchdowns, adding one on the ground.
RJ Mayes, QB, Marianna: Mayes was literally nearly perfect in the Bulldogs' 60-28 victory over Rutherford last week. The quarterback ended up completing 8-of-10 passes for 202 yards and five touchdowns.
Anthony Hall, QB, Escambia: The quarterback had arguably his best game of the season for the Gators in a 37-0 win over Fort Walton Beach. Hall threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns.
Xion Miler, OL, Bay: Miler is the first offensive lineman to be nominated this season and for good reason. The lineman tallied 12 pancake blocks in the Tornadoes’ 35-0 win over Pensacola.
Cameron Odom, RB, Cottondale: The running back had a solid night despite being in a loss as Odom rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns against Freeport.
Corban Butts, RB, Port St. Joe: The Sharks ran past Pike Liberal Arts (Alabama) last week behind Butts, who rushed for 123 yards on nine carries and scored once.
Jesse Winslette, QB, Choctawhatchee: Winslette led the way in the Indians’ 35-14 win over Pine Forest. The quarterback completed 6-of-11 passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns.
