THIS WEEK’S FLORIDA COACH OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:
Editor’s Note: Our Coach of the Week feature and corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. However, we do not allow votes that are generated by script, macro or other automated means. Athletes who receive votes generated by script, macro or other automated means will be disqualified.
Here are this week's nominees.
Tyrone McGriff, Leon: You’d have to go over four decades to find the last time the Lions raced off to a 5-0 start. McGriff has his team playing at a high level as they defeated St. John Paul II 30-26 last week.
Jacquez Green, Manatee: It’s only been a few years since Manatee last started off undefeated but it feels like it’s been longer. Green led the Hurricanes to a thrilling 31-24 win over Port Charlotte, avenging a 29-6 loss from last season.
Matt Thompson, Jesuit: Down, but never out. The Tigers continue to remind folks they’re still one of Hillsborough County’s top teams and they did it again last week as Thompson led Jesuit to a come-from-behind 28-21 win over his old team, Armwood.
Roger Harriott, St. Thomas Aquinas: If there was ever any doubts of the Raiders’ dominance, they silenced them last week. Harriott and crew convincingly defeated Treasure Coast in a 42-6 rout.
Dameon Jones, Chaminade-Madonna: In the most heavily anticipated game of the season, Jones navigated the Lions through all the ups and downs. Jones has Chaminade-Madonna undefeated at 5-0 after a 31-28 win over Miami Central.
Joshua Ross, Citrus: It always feels good winning your first game as a head coach. Ross got to experience that feeling in a 10-5 victory over Crystal River last week.
Cameron Duke, Edgewater: The Fightin’ Eagles are playing elite level football right now and Duke had them focused last week. Duke led Edgewater to a 27-0 win over Apopka.
Sean McIntyre, Creekside: In what was one of the bigger upsets of last week, McIntyre led the Knights to a surprising 23-22 win over Mandarin.
Grant Thompson, Niceville: If you’re looking for who the best team in the Florida Panhandle might be, might not want to look any further than Niceville. Thompson has his team clicking on all cylinders after defeating Choctawatchee 42-21 last week.
