Breaking: Joshua Ross no longer head football coach at Citrus High School (Florida)

SBLive confirmed that Ross has been let go

After less than one season at the helm, Joshua Ross will not be returning to the sidelines for the Citrus Hurricanes

Ross has been officially relieved as the head coach of the Hurricanes, according to Ross in a text message to SBLive Florida's Andy Villamarzo

The former Pasco High School quarterbacks coach had been reassigned back in late September by Citrus County School Board pending an investigation into an incident that occurred at the school. No specific details have emerged on said incident at Citrus High School.

"I would like to thank Citrus High School and our community for the opportunity to be your Head Football Coach,” Ross said in a statement. “I am definitely a better person and coach for the opportunity. I was blessed to coach some of the most amazing student-athletes who inspired and motivated me every single day. I have made lifelong connections and cherished memories. While I disagree with the decision, I do believe Citrus deserves the opportunity to become the very best version it possibly can be. This is not the end of my coaching career as I will be pursuing future opportunities."

At the time of Ross being reassigned before the investigation ended, the Hurricanes were 1-5 on the season, with their lone victory coming against rival Crystal River 10-5 back on September 22nd.

Citrus is currently 1-8 on the season and finish the 2023 season tonight on the road at Class 1R state title contender Williston (9-0).

Citrus has gone through some tough times the last couple of season, with the program enduring a 1-9 season in 2022 under previous head coach Franklin McKinley. Ross was hired back in February to replace McKinley.

Between 2020-2022, the Hurricanes have gone 5-23 during that stretch. Citrus this season has been outscored 303-58.

Ross before landing at Citrus, was the quarterbacks coach at Pasco High School in 2022. The Pirates last season went 9-2 and reached the Class 3S state playoffs.
