Cliff Lohrey out as head football coach at Crystal River

Lohrey had spent the last six seasons at his alma mater as the Pirates’ head coach

When Cliff Lohrey was named the head coach at Crystal River High School back in 2018, it was a dream come true for the coach that also is an alma mater of the Pirates.

On Wednesday afternoon, Lohrey confirmed with SBLive Sports Florida that he is no longer the head coach at Crystal River. Lohrey did not go into detail on why he is no longer the head coach.

Lohrey spent the last six seasons as the Pirates’ lead man, compiling an overall record of 23-34 from 2018-2023. Crystal River finished 2-7 this past season, ending 2023 with a 31-13 loss to Hernando.

Crystal River becomes the second head coaching vacancy in Citrus County as Citrus High School also dismissed its head coach Joshua Ross back on Nov. 3rd.
