Report: Former Leesburg head coach Steven Moffett heading to The First Academy
A day after SBLive Sports Florida reported Steven Moffett was no longer the head coach at Leesburg High School, his next destination is now known per a report.
According to a report by Chris Hays' of the Orlando Sentinel, Moffett is heading to become the co-head coach at The First Academy of Orlando. Moffett will be co-head coaching alongside Jeff Conaway, who just finished up his first season as the Royals' head coach going 6-4.
Conaway led Shiloh Christian to four straight state championship appearances, including winning the 2020 Class 4A title in Arkansas. Heading to the 407 with a record of 99-23 over the course of the last nine seasons with the Saints.
Moffett, in his first year as a high school football head coach, transformed the Leesburg Yellow Jackets from a 2-8 squad in 2022 into a 10-2 team which reached the second round of the FHSAA 3S state playoffs.
Following Leesburg's 17-10 season-ending playoff loss to Lake Wales, last Friday, news began to leak out that Moffett would be resigning his coaching post with the Yellow Jackets, possibly to accept a similar position with another school. That job ended up being with The First Academy.
Moffett's impact this season at Leesburg cannot be understated. He elevated the play of quarterback Salomon Georges (2,209 yards, 29 touchdowns) to the point that he had one of the best seasons in school history. As the victories mounted up, the stands for home games filled and the culture around the program improved immensely.
