Kyle Sasser steps down as Auburndale head football coach

Sasser steps away after five seasons at the helm

After five seasons, one undefeated regular season and multiple playoff appearances, Kyle Sasser’s time at Auburndale High School has come to an end.

According to PolkWay (Landlin May/Dylan Oliver), Sasser has stepped down as the Bloodhounds’ head coach. Sasser compiled an over record of 32-12, which included an undefeated regular season in 2021.

The 9-0 regular season in 2021 was Sasser’s best with the school, ending with a loss to Jones in the Class 6A postseason. Auburndale just finished up the 2023 season finishing 7-4, clinching a berth in the Class 3S playoffs, falling 29-19 to Leesburg in the region quarterfinals.

With Sasser stepping down, it’s the second known opening in Polk County, with the other being Santa Fe Catholic of Lakeland.
