SBLive Sports Athlete of the Week winner
Congratulations to last week's winner: Plant quarterback J.C. Mirasola

Here are this week's nominations:

CJ Ingram, Football, Hawthorne: The junior signal caller had a big night in the Hornets’ 49-0 1R state semifinal win over Blountstown, completing 11-of-16 passes for 156 yards and four touchdowns in a runaway victory.

Juan Rodriguez, Football, Norland: A lot of the accolades usually go to star quarterback Ennio Yapoor, but Rodriguez was the go-to-player for the Vikings in a 28-7 2M state semifinal win over Bolles. The tailback rushed for 251 yards on 26 carries and scored a touchdown.

Malik Morris, Football, Lakeland: Usually much more known for playing defense and delivering powerful hits, Morris showed off his running skills in a 21-20 win over Buchholz in a 4S state semifinal. Morris rushed for 45 yards and scored two crucial touchdowns.

Devonte Lyons, Football, St. Augustine: Lyons has been the workhorse all season long for the Yellow Jackets and rushed for 151 yards on 24 touches and scored three touchdowns versus Dunbar in a Class 3S state semifinal victory.

Alvin Johnson III, Football, Venice: Johnson III was breaking runs left and right in the Indians’ 51-21 4S state semifinal defeat of DeLand, rushing for 172 yards on just nine carries and scoring two touchdowns.

Daejon Shanks, Football, Bradford: The Tornadoes’ quarterback was held out for two quarters of the 2S state semifinal because of a two personal fouls in the region final, but came back for the final two periods and scored the game-winning 2-point conversion in a thrilling 22-21 win over Pensacola Catholic.

Preston Wright, Football, Trinity Catholic: The Celtics’ signal caller helped prove all the naysayers wrong. Wright completed 15-of-21 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns in a 51-36 1S state semifinal win over First Baptist Academy.

Tiant Wyche, Football, Mandarin: Wyche had a huge night in the Mustangs’ Class 4M state semifinal win over Monarch. The running back carried the ball 18 times for 151 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Mustangs back into states for the first time since 2018.

Joshua Townsend, Football, Homestead: The dual-threat senior quarterback guided the Broncos in a 42-35 win over Jones in a 3M state semifinal. Townsend completed 13-of-20 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns, sending Homestead back to the state championship game for the second straight season.

Bryce Fitzgerald, Football, Columbus: Is there a defensive back playing any better than Fitzgerald right now? In the Explorers’ 27-7 win over Plant, the Columbus safety had two interceptions, giving him a school-record 10 on the season.

Myles Mayfield, Boys Basketball, Edgewater: The 6-foot-8 junior was unstoppable in the title game of the Winter Park Rotary Basketball Tournament, recording 30 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double to lead the unbeaten Eagles (5-0) past Dr. Phillips (Orlando), 53-44. He was also named the MVP of the tournament.

Dylan Higgins, Boys Basketball, Parrish Community: Higgins, a guard, had himself a strong outing in a 56-49 win over Bayshore. The guard scored a game-high 31 points, connecting on 6-of-8 from 3-point land, and grabbing seven boards for the Bulls.

Keniel Velez, Boys Basketball, Vine Christian Academy: The 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior shooting guard had one of the better scoring performances of the season so far in a 75-56 win over Montverde Academy Regional. Velez ended the contest scoring 36 points on 13-of-20 from the field shooting.

Tatiana Matthews, Girls Basketball, Dunnellon: Matthews was among one of the scoring leaders in the Sunshine State a year ago and she's back again causing havoc. In a 57-52 win over Bradford, Matthews scored a season-high 33 points for the Tigers.

Shakirah Edwards, Girls Basketball, Rutherford: No better way to start off the girls basketball season than the way Edwards did for the Rams. The 5-foot-10 senior guard scored a team-high 33 points on 15-of-19 shooting in a 84-65 win over Lincoln.

Aariana Rose Gravel-Holtzclaw, Girls Basketball, Trinity Catholic: The Celtics aren't just getting it done on the football field, but on the hardwood as well. Gravel-Holtzclaw had a stellar performance in a 68-57 win over The Villages, scoring 29 points and collecting 22 rebounds.
