Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Florida High School Athlete of the Week for Dec. 25-Dec. 30 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Here are the nominations:

Cyion Smith, Boys Basketball, Blounstown: Just an eighth grader on varsity, Smith has made an impact at Blountstown. Smith led the Tigers with a team-high 24 points and 13 rebounds in a 56-49 victory over Malone (Alabama).

Isaac Celiscar, Boys Basketball, Winter Haven: The senior shooting guard became just the second player ever in Kingdom of the Sun event history to win back-to-back tournament MVP honors after leading all scorers with 26 points in the championship game win over St. Thomas Aquinas. 

Camden Cooper, Boys Basketball, St. Johns Country Day: Another newbie onto the varsity scene this 2023-2024 season has been Cooper. The eighth grader continued his torrid pace in St. Johns' 83-49 victory over Faith Christian Academy, scoring a game-high 28 points. 

Cameron Boozer, Boys Basketball, ColumbusBoozer showed out for the Sunshine State out on the West Coast. The Explorer had a double-double with 37 points, 11 rebounds in a 99-36 rout of Lake Oswego. The junior was voted most valuable player of the Les Schwab Invitational.

Triaton Mauffray, Boys Basketball, Destin: The senior combo guard notched the always difficult triple-double in a 75-37 win over Bronson. Mauffray scored 12 points, grabbed 11 boards, dished out 10 assists and four steals in the win. 

Chandler White-Brooks, Boys Basketball, Tampa Prep: One of the Tampa Bay area’s top players had himself another strong outing. The shooting guard scored a game-high 28 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists in a 69-58 win over Clearwater Central Catholic.

Elijah Lubsey, Boys Basketball, North Port: The 6-foot-8 forward has been a force all season long for the Bobcats. Lubsey scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds in North Port’s 62-58 win over Sarasota.

Jace Jreisat, Boys Basketball, Bayshore Christian: There’s been a lot of solid scoring performances and Jreisat just added one for the books. The senior scored a game-high 36 points in a 68-66 victory over Gulf last week. 

Josiah Shackelford, Boys Basketball, Sanford Seminole: The talented senior poured in 28 points to lead the Seminoles past host Mount Dora Christian, 78-65, in the championship game of the Mount Dora Christian Classic last week. 

Brady Knutson, Boys Basketball, Estero: Knutson had one of the better overall performances during the holidays last week. The guard scored 32 points against Immokalee to lead the Wildcats to their third consecutive win.

Sophia McCartney, Girls Basketball, Neumann: How about back-to-back double-doubles? McCartney pulled it off by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds then followed by 20 points and 21 rebounds last week. 

Yanja Lawson, Girls Basketball, Spruce Creek: The talented 5-foot-11 senior recorded 21 points, 15 rebounds for a double-double. Lawson also added six steals to lead the Hawks past Ezell-Harding Christian (Tennessee), 59-50.

Presley Norman, Girls Basketball, Bolles: The freshman combo guard has been playing more like a seasoned upperclassman lately. Norman scored a game-high 24 points in the Bulldogs’ 66-56 victory over Whitney Young (Illinois). 

Trinity Turner, Girls Basketball, Dr. Phillips: Turner proved in last week’s dominating 65-34 win over Blanche Ely that there’s not much she can’t do. The do-everything guard dropped 25 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and six steals.
