Vote: Who is the Tampa Bay Girls Flag Football Player of the Week (2/25/2024)?
The Florida High School Girls Flag Football season is in full swing and we begin our Player of the Week polls for areas all around the state. Teams have started off the regular season with some great individual performances.
As such, we have 10 athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s Tampa Bay Florida high school girls flag football player of the week award from February 19-24, and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Sunday, March 3rd at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced in next week's poll.
Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.
Here are the nominees:
Jayla Jackson, DB, East Bay: Jackson reset a team record that's been held for almost 15 years last week. The defensive back returned an interception 81 yards, breaking a 2010 record set by Delani Pola of 66.
Lucy Montiegel, DB, Alonso: The defensive back was a ball hawk in Alonso's 55-0 victory over Gaither last week, intercepting three passes.
Nyarai Wilson, ATH, Countryside: Doing a little bit of everything in the Cougars' 6-0 overtime win over East Lake, Wilson notched five sacks, 11 flag pulls on defense. On offense, she scored the game winning touchdown and hauled in nine passes for 51 yards.
From humble beginnings, hundreds of schools now field thriving girls’ flag football teams in Florida
Abby Elwell, QB, Lennard: We might be seeing Elwell on this list a lot this season. The quarterback completed 24-of-29 passes for 310 yards and four scores in a win over Bloomingdale last week.
Shanley Herbst, QB, Plant: The Panthers' signal caller was efficient on the team's win over Spoto last week. Herbst completed 13-of-16 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns.
KK Ramsey, QB, Steinbrenner: Just a freshman, Ramsey displayed why she will be one of the best in the area in a win over Riverview. Ramsey totaled 260 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns.
Audrey Kopp, WR, Tampa Catholic: The wide receiver was finding ways to break open in the Crusaders' win over Brandon. Kopp caught seven passes for 118 yards and two scores.
Peyton Dison, QB, Lecanto: Dison was on her game when the Panthers defeated Nature Coast last week. The quarterback completed 13 passes for 165 yards and three touchdowns.
Angelina Davis, LB, Dunedin: The Falcons' linebacker was a menace to Largo in a 14-6 win last week, with the sophomore notching four sacks.
Emma Clough, QB, Newsome: Clough was on the money in the Wolves' win over Bloomingdale last week. The senior completed 25 passes for 217 yards and four touchdowns.
