Mainland’s Travis Roland tabbed as Camden County (Georgia) head coach: Report

The Wildcats make a blockbuster hire of Roland, who led the Buccaneers to the 2023 Class 3S state championship

Camden County is wasting no time in making sure they remain one of Georgia’s premier programs in the state. 

According to the Tribune & Georgian, the Camden County School Board of Education has approved the hiring of Mainland High School’s Travis Roland. 

Roland led the Buccaneers to Florida’s Class 3S state championship over St. Augustine in 2023. 

Camden County makes the blockbuster hire of Roland, who in three seasons has compiled an overall record of 30-10. 

Roland will have big shoes to fill heading to Camden County as he replaces the legendary Jeff Herron, who stepped down as the program’s coach on Jan. 26. 

Herron has won 334 games and five state championships during his time with the Wildcats. He led the ball club to a 10-4 record in Georgia’s highest classification of AAAAAAA. 

Herron started out as the lead man at Camden County back in 1989 and from that time on became a South Georgia legend out of Kingsland.

The longtime head coach compiled 30 playoff appearances during his time at Camden County from 1989-2023. This past 2023 season might’ve been one of his best coaching jobs of them all.
